OT/META: Please use the search bar before you post

Submitted by othernel on October 21st, 2020 at 1:20 PM

Clearly with the season coming up, we're getting a lot more seasonal posters who, despite their good intentions, are not searching for posts before posting their own days old "[insert coach here] has Covid" articles.

  • There is a search bar in the top left on desktop. Please use it before posting.
  • If an article is more than 2 days old, assume it's been posted already or that it wasn't relevant enough to be posted when it was first published
  • Just use common sense, and Bolivia can be avoided.

If you search for "Jeff Brohm" and click "MgoBlog" the 2nd page post does not come up...only the one that was just posted.  For me anyways...

But even that isnt really needed.  All anyone has to do is check the date stamp of their "news" and follow these easy steps:

Important Michigan news more than five minutes old - it's either been posted or someone is creating a post

Relatively minor Michigan news more than one hour old - it's either been posted or someone is posting it

Major non-Michigan football news more than one hour old - it's either posted or someone is posting it

Minor non-Michigan football or any other non-Michigan sports news two hours old - probably OK to post but scroll the sidebar first to make sure

For some reason this week people who absolutely should know better are seeing things that are news to them and deciding "hey, I'll bet all 100,000 plus visitors to MgoBlog this week probably missed this bit of news like I did.  I better create a thread for it."

Why is this so fucking hard to understand?

C'mon, MGrow.  I learned in my 30's that a large size of any population - even the crowd on Mgoblog - is just plain fucking stupid.

Cant stop stupid, cant cure it - can only ignore em, laugh about em, or severely abuse a stupid blog poster with a witty putdown.  Most folks here choose the 3rd option...

FWIW in my personal pet peeves I find the multiple posting offense far less "offensive" than the "hey, I just heard something so I better create a thread about it" regardless of how old their news flash is.  Same-day multiple posting, especially if the original thread is just a link without content or has an obscure title like "Boiler Down" so the 2nd poster cant readily identify it is very understandable to me.

But Jesus tap-dancing Christ on a cracker, check the date/time stamp on your news before creating a thread.  if your news aint "new" - dont post it.

Totally agree but it would also help if this forum had the single feature common among every forum in existence and that is to have recent posts bump thread to the top. You'd get rid of redundancy and help keep popular threads alive.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find the previous "Everyone use search before posting" threads which assuredly exist somewhere in the aether and would've made this the most ironic meta thread ever.

Since this has gone of the tracks already, what would be more demoralizing?

Having 100 scored on you, or having a team run the clock the entire 4th quarter through running the ball and stringing together a 20+ play drive?  2nd scenario would assume that you’d start with the ball on your own 20 around the start of the quarter.

Correct procedure:

1. Don’t use search and assume no one has posted days old news

2. Post anyway as if the news came out 1 millisecond ago

3. Take your negs and/or argue with evereyone, thus receiving more negs

4. Have your post moved or deleted by mods and accept your negative points thus not allowing you to start new posts

By tapping on the blue "Go To MGoBoard" bar , you can take a ride thru the Time Tunnel all the way back 2313 pages of OPs to late June 2008. That's over 92,500 posts and counting BUT DOESN'T INCLUDE ANY OF THE DUPLICATE THREADS THE MIDS DELETED.

Since the first post to the new board was Brian's "Welcome to the Board" post, I'll instead give you the link to the 2nd ever thread, " 2008 Predictions"

https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/2008-season-record-predictions

...and nobody in this short thread came close to foreseeing how awful it would be.
