At some point, and it's actually a relatively low number, more money does not make you happier. If Harbaugh has realized this, he, and the rest of the Michigan universe, is going to be incredibly happy moving forward. I have zero concern about another program swooping in and offering more money. I cannot imagine a professional team actually pulling him away. He's in his happy place and giving back and all it took was one ass-whoopin' of the Buckeyes.

Wow

that is amazing in this day and age of greed.

Corum gives turkeys to families in need, Harbaugh gives his bonus money to the athletic department, like we are living a dream right now

It's actually not unreasonable to say that Harbaugh is following Blake Corum's lead here. I'm sure Harbaugh has been plenty philanthropic in the past, but I remember his comment about "I'm just watching film...why didn't I think of that?" when asked about Corum and NHG spending a day in Ypsi distributing turkeys.

WOW.  So he takes an incentive based pay cut, only to earn those incentives and give it to those in the building who need it more.  A true leader!  Very lucky to have him.

As Forrest Gump once said, “Mama always said there’s only so much money a man really needs. The rest is just for showing off.”

Extremely admirable and selfless act on their part.

So we have a head coach who isn't intent on squeezing every last dollar he can out of the university that employs him? What kind of sorcery is this?

Incredible - this dude is coach of the century, because he is the total package. Glad I can proudly say I stood by him while so many here (a large majority) called for his head. Thanks for showing outstanding character Coach!  Also, hats off to his his beautiful and generous wife Sarah!

I think it was pretty much the consensus on here, led by Brian, Ace, and to an only slightly less obnoxiously convinced extent Seth, that we were doomed to mediocrity with Harbaugh and should have done anything to get Matt Campbell.
I still read mgoblog religiously over the last 2 years because I’m an addict, but it was super annoying and most folks gave Harbaugh “apologists” a hard time only slightly fading until…2 days ago.

That is just so very fucking cool it defies words.

This after getting his compensation reduced.

Really proud to have him as our coach in this day and age.

Yeah, I was just reading on 11 warriors of just how awful he was for his 3rd base comment was and how he is such a terrible human. Hate him because he’s our coach but don’t question his heart, loyalty or integrity. I’m so thankful he’s our coach. Never was in the fire Harbaugh crowd, never will be. Great to be a Michigan Wolverine!!

I saw so many OSU fans suddenly clutch their pearls and brought up Day's (admittedly tragic) childhood, as if that insulates him from any trash talk.  He talked about dropping 100 on UM because Harbaugh pointed out during a conference call that, in fact, Al Washington at OSU had violated some relatively minor COVID restriction last year.  Yet Harbaugh points out that a guy who bounced around coaching gigs almost every year before basically inheriting the OSU job without having coached a single game as a HC at any level might be thinking he's a bit more important to that team's success than he is violates human morality.

Anyway, the OSU fanbase is like any fanbase with it's stupid portion but they are absolutely showing their ass this year when it comes to dealing with even the hint of adversity.

Shocking such an erudite fan base would miss the forest for the trees. No one is knocking what Ryan Day has accomplished in his life but at OSU he did not build it from scratch or rescue it from despair.
He stepped into a perennial top 4 team that has been a top 4 team for the better part of 20 years (save a one-year tattoo blip) and took over for one of the best college coaches in recent history. It still remains to be seen if he can keep it up. Seems like recruiting is still firing on all cylinders but some coaching decisions haven’t panned out (Coombs)

We truly are. Men of good character, who are also at the top of their profession, are in very short supply these days, and we have two of them.

Money had absolutely nothing to do with Jim coming home to coach. He immediately bought a house down the street from Bo's, built one for his parents, put his son on the staff, and sent his kids to the same school he went to. I have never thought for one minute Jim would decide to leave before retirement.

And I'm damn glad we stuck with him.

exactly.  money does not motivate either of these guys.  they love their families, their school, and the kids they coach.  harbaugh ain't leaving in the absence of armegedon and juwan is only slightly more likely to leave, but not in the next 4 years.  they don't want to travel.  they want to be home with their wives and kids.  they want to go to their kids' events and to michigan sporting events for the other's team.
