As other coaches are leaving our coach gives back
November 29th, 2021 at 8:21 PM ^
We are so lucky to have this dude.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:30 PM ^
At some point, and it's actually a relatively low number, more money does not make you happier. If Harbaugh has realized this, he, and the rest of the Michigan universe, is going to be incredibly happy moving forward. I have zero concern about another program swooping in and offering more money. I cannot imagine a professional team actually pulling him away. He's in his happy place and giving back and all it took was one ass-whoopin' of the Buckeyes.
November 29th, 2021 at 10:20 PM ^
And we as Michigan fans need to recognize how good we have it with him as our coach!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:30 PM ^
Double post, because duh.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:34 AM ^
Hey, I saw that Mel Tucker gave a fiver to the Salvation Army guy--asked for four ones back, but he's doing his bit!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:21 PM ^
Michigan man!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:22 PM ^
No amount in the world replaces that feeling he had on Saturday afternoon.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:53 PM ^
So true Bryan, so true.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:22 PM ^
Holy shit.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:23 PM ^
Wow
that is amazing in this day and age of greed.
Corum gives turkeys to families in need, Harbaugh gives his bonus money to the athletic department, like we are living a dream right now
November 29th, 2021 at 9:12 PM ^
Meanwhile in Columbus, their Catholic hero, drunk Urban Meyer is spotted in a bar with his thumb up the ass of someone named Cayman Nebraska. (welcome to the center stage)
November 29th, 2021 at 9:25 PM ^
It's actually not unreasonable to say that Harbaugh is following Blake Corum's lead here. I'm sure Harbaugh has been plenty philanthropic in the past, but I remember his comment about "I'm just watching film...why didn't I think of that?" when asked about Corum and NHG spending a day in Ypsi distributing turkeys.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:25 PM ^
WOW. So he takes an incentive based pay cut, only to earn those incentives and give it to those in the building who need it more. A true leader! Very lucky to have him.
November 29th, 2021 at 9:11 PM ^
Leaders and Best!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:26 PM ^
Guess he’s planning on staying another year.
November 29th, 2021 at 10:56 PM ^
I believe he'll get a nice raise after this season.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:28 PM ^
I think we're seeing this year the real reasons Harbaugh coaches.
November 29th, 2021 at 9:20 PM ^
Retweet. Can you think of another coach, off the top of your head, who would do this, or who has done something like this? Call me crazy, but it can't be many.
November 29th, 2021 at 9:42 PM ^
lou henson went back to new mexico state at the end of his career and coached for $1.
November 29th, 2021 at 9:51 PM ^
Who can forget Lou Henson. Worst comb over this side of Gene Keady.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:28 PM ^
As Forrest Gump once said, “Mama always said there’s only so much money a man really needs. The rest is just for showing off.”
Extremely admirable and selfless act on their part.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:38 PM ^
I like the story of the small town sporting goods owner whose store is visited by a New York businessman. The businessman looks around for a few minutes and says "I can triple your business in six months."
The owner says, "why? I can't eat nine meals a day."
November 29th, 2021 at 8:30 PM ^
That is impressive and very kind. Awesome really. Thank you for sharing this. "Who's got it better than us ?"
November 29th, 2021 at 8:30 PM ^
Really glad we are not on this crazy carousel
November 29th, 2021 at 8:32 PM ^
Some things!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
This is how champions act
November 29th, 2021 at 8:34 PM ^
So we have a head coach who isn't intent on squeezing every last dollar he can out of the university that employs him? What kind of sorcery is this?
November 29th, 2021 at 8:34 PM ^
Incredible - this dude is coach of the century, because he is the total package. Glad I can proudly say I stood by him while so many here (a large majority) called for his head. Thanks for showing outstanding character Coach! Also, hats off to his his beautiful and generous wife Sarah!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
Ditto!
November 29th, 2021 at 9:48 PM ^
Maybe not a "large majority" as much as it's been multitudes of very loud and mulish complainers, especially in the weekly game threads.
November 29th, 2021 at 10:14 PM ^
Exactly... I rarely visit this board and almost never bother to log in/post because some people just insist on taking the fun out of everything. I feel bad for those people, but I also wish they had a therapist or something other than this board.
November 30th, 2021 at 3:51 AM ^
I think it was pretty much the consensus on here, led by Brian, Ace, and to an only slightly less obnoxiously convinced extent Seth, that we were doomed to mediocrity with Harbaugh and should have done anything to get Matt Campbell.
I still read mgoblog religiously over the last 2 years because I’m an addict, but it was super annoying and most folks gave Harbaugh “apologists” a hard time only slightly fading until…2 days ago.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
Not a single person like him in college football, maybe even in the world
November 29th, 2021 at 8:38 PM ^
That’s our coach! ?
November 29th, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
Class.
Tell me this guy doesn't love the University of Michigan.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:42 PM ^
Wow. Time for another Jim Harbaugh appreciation thread!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:45 PM ^
Isn't... This.... One?
November 29th, 2021 at 8:42 PM ^
That is just so very fucking cool it defies words.
This after getting his compensation reduced.
Really proud to have him as our coach in this day and age.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
"Good shit, Harbaugh"
November 29th, 2021 at 8:45 PM ^
Yeah, I was just reading on 11 warriors of just how awful he was for his 3rd base comment was and how he is such a terrible human. Hate him because he’s our coach but don’t question his heart, loyalty or integrity. I’m so thankful he’s our coach. Never was in the fire Harbaugh crowd, never will be. Great to be a Michigan Wolverine!!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:48 PM ^
If it bothers them so much, maybe they should hang 100 on us next year.
November 29th, 2021 at 10:54 PM ^
They will hang a 100 on us, but it will take them 4 years to do it!
November 29th, 2021 at 8:59 PM ^
11W are salty because they know the 3rd base comment is dead on the reality that a large portion of Day's success is due to the momentum of the OSU machine that Meyer and Tressel built up over the course of nearly two decades.
The truth always hurts.
November 29th, 2021 at 10:13 PM ^
Yep. Most of them are Day recruits but Urbs gave him a fully functional death star that recruits itself.
November 29th, 2021 at 9:50 PM ^
I saw so many OSU fans suddenly clutch their pearls and brought up Day's (admittedly tragic) childhood, as if that insulates him from any trash talk. He talked about dropping 100 on UM because Harbaugh pointed out during a conference call that, in fact, Al Washington at OSU had violated some relatively minor COVID restriction last year. Yet Harbaugh points out that a guy who bounced around coaching gigs almost every year before basically inheriting the OSU job without having coached a single game as a HC at any level might be thinking he's a bit more important to that team's success than he is violates human morality.
Anyway, the OSU fanbase is like any fanbase with it's stupid portion but they are absolutely showing their ass this year when it comes to dealing with even the hint of adversity.
November 29th, 2021 at 10:45 PM ^
Shocking such an erudite fan base would miss the forest for the trees. No one is knocking what Ryan Day has accomplished in his life but at OSU he did not build it from scratch or rescue it from despair.
He stepped into a perennial top 4 team that has been a top 4 team for the better part of 20 years (save a one-year tattoo blip) and took over for one of the best college coaches in recent history. It still remains to be seen if he can keep it up. Seems like recruiting is still firing on all cylinders but some coaching decisions haven’t panned out (Coombs)
December 1st, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
Put another way, it's pretty clear that Day is standing on the shoulders of two OSU coaching giants, Meyer and Tressel.
If Day wants to talk tough and make noise trying to deny these facts, it's completely fair game for Harbaugh and others to call him out.
November 29th, 2021 at 8:47 PM ^
I’ve been saying for years, he’s not motivated by money and he’s not leaving. In many ways, he is the football version of Juwan. We are blessed.
November 29th, 2021 at 9:27 PM ^
We truly are. Men of good character, who are also at the top of their profession, are in very short supply these days, and we have two of them.
Money had absolutely nothing to do with Jim coming home to coach. He immediately bought a house down the street from Bo's, built one for his parents, put his son on the staff, and sent his kids to the same school he went to. I have never thought for one minute Jim would decide to leave before retirement.
And I'm damn glad we stuck with him.
November 29th, 2021 at 9:58 PM ^
exactly. money does not motivate either of these guys. they love their families, their school, and the kids they coach. harbaugh ain't leaving in the absence of armegedon and juwan is only slightly more likely to leave, but not in the next 4 years. they don't want to travel. they want to be home with their wives and kids. they want to go to their kids' events and to michigan sporting events for the other's team.
