OT: The year is half over, what has been your personal high point this year?
I can remember Christmas like it was a month ago...oddly I have no memories of NYE. It's certainly been a relatively difficult year for me, but there have been a number of wonderful moments so far.
So what has been your best or most meaningful or most memorable moment from the first half of the year?
Being able to let my wife take 6+ months off work to deal with all that's swirling in our lives. She just started last week, and will get to spend more time with the kids in the summer, better prep them for middle/elem next year (first year where they are split), and the fall/holidays without stress of work.
Finding a new job / fixing a dogpile that seemed irredeemable.
Finding continued ways to connect with the kids -- got a ping pong table which has resulted in a ton of games intra and extra family.
Going to Greece and getting to visit the village my grandfather left 100+ years ago. My what a different world it would be for me if he had stayed
Very cool, our last 2 big trips were to my wife's grandfather's tiny town in Italy and my grandmother's birthplace of Berlin.
I am thankful for what I have. I am also thankful for what I do not have.
Wish you all a safe and healthy rest of the year.
Not technically the first half of the year, but my moment was finishing a trek at Philmont with my 14 year old son on 7/3. We both hugged and cried in each others' arms after we finished the last day's hike, waiting for the bus back to basecamp.
The tears were from both realizing we were in the moment of one of the those incredible memories that will last a lifetime. One of those lifetime changing moments where my son achieved a goal he was truly doubtful if he was capable of attaining. Teaching him that he is capable of accomplishing or handling just about anything in life if he puts forth his best determination and effort.
(There were many "GO BLUES!" when we wore our U of M gear around Base Camp. Last year's THE Worst State Ever shirt was a big hit while helping serve dinner in the cafeteria prior to hitting the trail.)
Remembering the Ohio State game
I cleaned out my gutters.
2nd story, pretty high up.
This is an easy one: MGoWife and I celebrating our 30th anniversary!
Getting a second opinion from Mayo clinic on a cyst that was diagnosed as low-grade non-specific adeno carcinoma (cancer of the saliva gland) and
having them tell me it was benign.
I hope this is the most memorable moment for many more years.
:)
Thanks for asking!
Just got back from a trip to Mexico with college friends and their wives minus the kiddos. Was an incredible break and came back incredibly refreshed. Think it was a good break for the kids too.
Personally:
Having my daughter move back from Chicago.
Financially:
Owning Tesla stock.
(low point - still owning PayPal).
Watching my Manchester City team win the treble and finally winning champions league was probably the highlight of the year for me sports wise.
Turning 60 and knowing my teen-aged self would be impressed.
Turning 70 and spending a couple weeks in Switzerland with several of my sibs and spouses was quite lovely.
