OT: World Series (Nats vs. Astros) Game 6

For those staying up for this one.

Nats continue to find ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, with already 5 men LOB through 4. They're now 2-for-something ridiculous in the series with RISP.

As a Montreal Expo fan who will never get over 1994 and how the franchise was gutted thereafter, I can't stomach Washington winning it all.  Let's go 'Stros, even if you don't belong in the AL...

I think the unretiring of jersey numbers was the last straw for those Expos fans willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the new version of the franchise. If the organization had any interest in maintaining relations they wouldn't have had journeymen wearing #30 and Yan Gomes would not be wearing 10. If they want to pretend the Expos never happened, that's fine. Fuck 'em.

Turner just called out Joe Torrey! “He’s sitting there with his dead, he doesn’t want to lookup”!!  LMAO!!  C’mon Joe, do the right thing and get it corrected.

Smolta stained his credibility immeasurably by saying:

'Well, nobody hurt here....it all worked out with the Rendon HR, it's tough umpiring "Live".....

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????????????????????????

Sorry John:

1) The Umpires get paid to umpire "live".

2)  The Nats lost their Manager over the worst call in World Series history.

3)  The Nats were cheated out of a run.

John Smolz is a TV Stooge.

Joe Torre is WORSE!

(imagine if the same situation had happened to Torre when he was the Yankee Manager....)

As a Braves fan, I know Sam "Infield Fly" Holbrook all too well.

That said, Turner clearly ran from home to first in fair territory.  The call was correct.  It's not really expected to come up on throws from the third baseman -- it's mostly intended to keep players from blocking the ability of the pitcher or catcher to throw them out after a bunt -- but it is the rule.

And, also, to defend Smoltz a bit -- he was a pitcher, and I absolutely believe that they tell the pitcher to drill the batter in the back if he's in fair territory.  I doubt they tell the third baseman to do that, though.

I could see an argument if Turner had run in foul territory all the way until he approached the base, and then crossed over to hit the bag in stride, but that's not what happened.

It's a judgement call, which means the umpire can determine whether the batter was intentionally trying to interfere with the throw.  Turner was squarely in the base path - where he was supposed to be - the last few steps.  And, in fact, he touched the base with his LEFT leg, without needing to do anything other than run normally.  If he touched fair territory, it was half way to the bag, once or twice.  The first baseman's glove hit his ass AFTER he touched the base, because the throw was short of the base and outside.  It was a shitty throw.

You are blaming the runner, who is in HIS base path, for a shitty throw by the third baseman and a poor fielding effort by the first baseman.
