Happiness.  Recognizing that we have to grind every day and find happiness in the grind.  (Serve others, create, procreate). “The cup is already broken” so it cannot bring you happiness.

I don't believe that God is opposed to us being happy, but I believe our purpose is to serve God and serve God by bringing others to him and living a Godly life.  Our reward of unimaginable happiness is our reward in the next world, or so I believe.  :)

Always felt those living their one and only life that we know of right now worrying about getting into the next world that we have zero proof or evidence of is someone who is missing out on this life and taking the most advantage of it not to mention adding way more stress to their lives

When pondering this essential question, I try to keep two quotes in mind:

"To discover yourself is to discover the meaning of life." - Louise Kay

"Remember to always be yourself. Unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Life has no “meaning”

We evolved into a highly complex life form, one of many, from a soup of chemicals over billions of years, through evolution and natural selection (extinction events, survival of the fittest etc.).  Totally random, one in one trillion event.  Like beating OSU.

To that end, the meaning of YOUR life is what you make it, while trying to achieve your own personal happiness.

either that or, when we die, we snap out of it only to realize we are sims in an alien version of Grand Theft Auto.

Best most realistic answer here. No idea why this is down voted.

This is the current evidence he shown most likely to be true by the smartest people in our world. No reason to believe in ancient myths told by uneducated peasants who lived in mudhuts over actual scientists in the 21st century

You want to talk about bad? How would you like to be a Michigan graduate who cheers for Detroit and Pittsburgh professional sports teams and a Federal Government employee who votes with the Democratic Party? Since the calendar turned to November 1, 2016, I feel like I'm trapped in the evil Federation alternate universe. Election Day 2018 is the only thing I got, and even then, the early evening started out questionably.

Facts and convictions are apples to oranges. Our brains are the most powerful supercomputers in the world, by an exponential order of magnitude, yet they're constantly overstimulated by our senses. Conclusions derived from facts are practically meaningless, because we all filter things differently, based on our diverse experiences. That said, it's worth noting that outside of the few wealthiest, most privileged nations, nearly every human brain believes in some higher power, despite pseudo-scientific "evidence" that's existentially opposed to the notion. It's also worth stating that most discussions of this sort don't account for the random, unrelated, sampling of people across all cultures and languages, stating that: in near-death experiences, they've existed outside their physical bodies, witnessed the physical world surrounding their lifeless corpses, seen a light at the end of a dark tunnel, and even communicated with long deceased relatives, despite suffering massive life threatening trauma, that the human brain regularly shocks out of, and routinely "forgets" in traumatic situations. It's not like those accounts are all from flat-earthers who subscribe to the same website..

Just because lots of people believe something doesn't make it anymore true. Not to mention there are more stories over people dying coming back and seeing nothing than anything else.

A decent percentage also feel they have no good reason to believe in some supernatural stories and are the fastest growing segment in the world as well.

Religion will tell you the meaning of life is to die. But I think the reason for life is to give life. Whether it's cheering up a complete stranger with a nice interaction, procreating, or feeding the shrubs and grubs with your decaying body, just live it to it's fullest. Live for yourself, and live for others.

There are so many religions in this world, I can't honestly boil them all down into one simple statement like you have. The one that I know best, which is the one of Christ, states overwhelmingly and repeatedly the opposite of what you've said. People often have, and will continue to, misrepresent, unknowingly or deliberately, even in the church itself, because people are people, myself especially. What I know for a fact the bible says is pretty much exactly the same thing you conclude with, and the opposite of what you claim religion does. Despite what people may say, the bible says plainly: God is love, demonstrated that Jesus regularly got down on his hands and knees and served by example, said that the only way to salvation and forgiveness is to be as a child, to pray for your enemies, and that what you do for the least of all people you for for Him. The world would be a much,  MUCH better place if more followed that example.

I grew up in the Christian faith. A lot of the values I hold dear were formed by that faith and the teachings of the bible. I don't hold a grudge against religion or people with faith, heck I still bounce back and forth on that topic myself. That being said, the general gist of all religion seems to me is to be good in this life so you can have a great next life.

Life means whatever you work it out to mean in cooperation and competition with everything else answering that same question.

The other question seems unanswerable: Why is there something and not nothing? You simply cannot answer that question without applying your own meanings however "right" you may be.
