OT: Video of Thad Matta - 'We got rid of some guys we needed to get rid of'
you got to out-sane the insane. Know what I', sayin'?
"Got his swagger back" = "willing to get dirtier in recruiting." Matta looked great when he was pulling in all those 5-star recruits. Calipari's arrival at Kentucky in 2009 changed all that.

I've been saying that since Matta stopped getting that one guy who gets them over the hump. Calipari outbids him for all of the truly elite recruits he is trying to buy and he ends up with a solid team, but not the kind he is used to.
That is a low character speech, and buckeye fan probably loves it, which makes complete sense.
he recruits, doesn't it?
And running the program like he did before?
I didn't realize he took a few seasons off. Thad Matta is the Hugh Freeze of college hoops.
Welp..I'm extatic that we don't have a coach like that in our basketball or football program. Hail!
There is only one constant in your program that you don't like any more, Thad, and it's not the kids. Look in the mirror, doucher.
Even you Thad
That image will be hard to erase from my memory

Wine coolers?
Huge pet peeve of mine. Anyone else hate when a public sports figure makes a mistake or says something stupid, and there's always a few internet commentators who have to note that they've "actually talked to X before a couple times" or "have met him at the bar" etc., and proclaim their unequivocal good-guy-ness?
At the end of the day, I'm sure he was nice at the bar or wherever you met him, but he was also probably surrounded by 100 other people who knew who he was and was just placeating the crowd. How he acted a couple times in public does not make him a "good dude".
I mean, I didn't say he's definitely a bad guy. I don't know him. I just think this quote show some flaws in how he's managing his program.
That said, some guy on the internet having met Matta at a bar a couple times doesn't make him a "good dude".
was a pretty good dude in public settings, too.
have to be personable at times. Otherwise they simply couldn't recruit. I guess my point is that it shouldn't come as any surprise when a coach seems like a good guy in public. It should be a surprise when he doesn't. Either way, it tells more about their personality than their character.
I make comments on here all the time about coaches and players. I type what I see and think. In real life I guarantee I'm more morally and character sound than 98% of you schmucks wll ever be. So...get over it DIAG!

the non-bizarro Belein?
Belein ?
Although frankly I think Dana is becoming JB on steroids (in a good way)
That is my take as well. Calipari killed Matta's line to 5-stars. Kentucky became the premier Nike program along with Duke, especially in the Midwest. Even Tom Crean's hire at Indiana hurt Matta a little as well.
Recruits like Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas were committed to OSU before Calipari was even hired as basketball recruiting timeline is much earlier with kids usually committing in their junior year. But there was huge talent dropoff after his 2010 class.
...Buckeye and Sparty fans would lose their minds.
Recruits a top 5 class, season tanks, throws players under bus. gets rid of them after 1 year. Something tells me you didn't relly get rid of who you needed to get rid of, coach thad, since you were responsible for last year.
In high school, my nephew started alongside Payton Dastrup (ESPN 4*, Mesa, AZ) who committed to OSU but then at the last minute backed off and signed with BYU. This was in 2013 or 2014 I believe but I bet he is glad he made that decision
