OT: Vancouver pulling a lil bro after the Stanley Cup finals
Looks like the Canucks really didn't take well to the game 7 loss yesterday..riots erupted soon after and resulted in 130-140 people getting sent to the hospital. (link)
Between 130 and 140 people were sent to hospital, including three people with stab wounds and two suffering trauma, while a number of others were treated in the courtyard of a downtown hospital for the effects of tear gas.
Most people were treated for tear gas and pepper spray effects, lacerations, facial trauma, substance abuse and head injuries, Alyssa Polinsky, spokeswoman for B.C. Ambulance, told QMI Agency Thursday morning.
There were no fatalities, but one person was in critical condition Thursday at St. Paul's Hospital in downtown Vancouver. Polinsky could not confirm if it was the same person witnesses reported seeing jump off a viaduct.
Among the random acts of disruption included flipped cop cars, vandalism throughout the town, random fires, little asian men going complete ape-shit
and grown shirtless men stealing gucci bags
but the Asian guy with the hockey stick is damn funny.
Terrible tape job on that twig though.
It's terrible for hockey purposes... but ideal for window bashin' purposes.
"Are you not entertained?"
This BEGS for a photoshop thread.
The least scary guy on the planet.
You've got to hand it to that guy. As mindless violence goes, using the actual equipment of the sport in question to commit said violence is fairly clever. NFL rioters should take note.
How would you use a football during a riot? Oh wait...You could do the three kings thing and strap grenades to them.
I was thinking more of the pads/helmets.
I rooted hard for them last night (I despise Boston teams), but I am happy they lost now. The entire arena staying to boo the Bruins' celebration was as classless as it gets.
I'm pretty sure they were booing Bettman, not the Bruins
Yeah, Bettman got booed ridiculously bad but Vancouver fans were booing some Boston players when they skated with the cup. I did, however, like the cheer they gave for Tim Thomas.
They booed Gregory Campbell, but something tells me that was directed more at his dad than anything. Brad Marchand might have been the other one, I'm not sure.
Yeah, it was Marchand.
they had a bettman sucks chant going
They booed both of them.
I didn't like Miami fans peacing out of the building with two minutes left the other night, but it beats the hell out of staying to BOO the team that just beat you.
The fans stayed to A) congratulate their team on a great season (stood up with a minute left to start cheering), B) to see the Stanley Cup, and C) to give some congratulations to local players on the Bruins (Lucic got a loud ovation as he's a local boy from East Van). They also gave a nice ovation for Tim Thomas.
You're telling me Bruin fans wouldn't have booed Luongo had he skated with the Cup in Boston?
This game meant EVERYTHING to Vancouver. The Canucks are the one thing that unites this city where 40% of its residents are born outside Canada.
The Bruins are a distant 4th sport in Boston. I don't recall seeing 100,000 Bruin fans outside watching the game on TV.
Given that almost all hockey fans seem to despise Bettman, how does he keep his job? Isn't he a bit of a liability for the league's image?
He just got a 5-year extension this past season, so I guess not (somehow).
I'd be willing to bet they were booing Bettman. Bettman deserves booing.
Would that be much better? Would they have booed Bettman that hard if they won? Of course not.
Their team lost and they stayed there just to express how bitter they were. That is pathetic.
Boo'ing Bettman is always the right answer. Doesn't matter what the question is.
No, they definitely would have booed Bettman that hard. Any team outside of Phoenix would boo Bettman as much as possible no matter what the circumstance is.
It was definitely Bettman. The fans stopped once the Conn Smythe and the cup were handed off. They actually gave Milan Lucic one hell of a cheer.
I thought they were just calling for little-used 4th line center Montee Boo-urns.
feel free to neg...unless you enjoyed the embedded pictures...or not. at least it was worth a try
the pictures are fantastic (but they could have just as easily been added to the previous riot thread)
for posting something all of us already knew all too much about... and then I scrolled down the rest of the way.
A mighty +1, and my apologies. That picture is sheer insanity.
And let him henceforth be known as Angry Canadiasian.
I think the guy with the hockey stick is the Canadian Tyler Durden (no doubt off to loot a fashion eyewear boutique).
It's a great shot, but it was staged....still funny though.
....."OFFICER, PLEASE! FOR GOD SAKES, THEY'RE LOOTING THE FOOD KING!"
Its kinda cute though.... Romantic andd it'd the definition of french canadian...
beat me to it...
This picture does not compute. He must be the angry store owner.
and gone all medieval on their dumb drunk asses.
It's funny when your team's fans feel compelled to apologize to the other team's city:
“These are not hockey fans,” Sarah Forrest from Vancouver also wrote to the Globe. “These are trouble makers who would have rioted whether we lost or won the game. The true fans of Vancouver are disgraced by what is going on in our city.”
on the Puck Daddy site, I thought I was thirteen and reading old issues of Alpha Flight again:
Puck, is that you?
reminds me of Happy Michael Phelps.
Vancouver is one of the coolest cities I've ever been to. Seriously.
This incident unfortunately paints the place and people there in a bad light, which couldn't be further from the truth.
If you haven't been there before, you'll want to go someday.
ohh my God that is one angry Canadian
What did you do for the game last night?
That is a Coach bag, and either a couple seasons old or a knockoff.
Impressive.
Those are coach purses not gucci bags....IDIOT!
That's a Coach bag, not Gucci.
Good thing the internets are anonymous, else I'd be getting my pants hung from the flagpole right now.
