OT: Valentine’s Day - How will you celebrate your MGoSweetheart?

Submitted by Blau on February 14th, 2024 at 9:12 AM

Yeah, so I woke up this morning and completely forgot it’s Valentine’s Day. You know, that annual made-up holiday for spouses to say “I Love You” through cheesy greeting cards, over-priced bouquets of flowers and cheap chocolate.

So as I fend off other guilty and otherwise forgetful significant others at the flower shops during the lunch hour, I’m wondering how others plan to celebrate a day that should be outlawed in all 49 states besides Ohio as I believe Ryan Day needs all the love he can get after losing to Michigan 3x in a row.

First, will you succumb to the pressure of Hallmark, Godiva, and 1-800-Flowers this year?

Or is Valentine’s Day just another day on the calendar in your household?

Lastly, what would you like your Valentine’s Day card or message say to Ryan Day/OSU fanbase? If you can afford it, I hear the team would like something gold as they haven’t received that type of thing in a while…

On a personal note - Mrs. Amazinblu got a bit of additional attention today.  A card - and a personal drive to a meeting she said earlier today.   The bigger occassion is her birthday - next week - when we'll take a couple of days to visit our children (current juniors at Michigan) - for a dinner and "drop offs" at Metro when they head out for their respective Spring Breaks.

As for Ryan Day ... no words can express how much I appreciate him.

My wife works a later shift today, so the evening will be largely spent....well, she'll be at work.

I did have a card and a perfume set (a brand she had minted about months ago) sitting next to the coffee pot for when she woke up to get coffee.

Thankful this Valentine's Day to be divorced a little short of two years ago so I don't have to pretend to care about a manufactured holiday, though the downside has been trying to navigate the toxic wasteland of current dating since. Think last night was like my 50+ first date at this point, lol.

Got my wife some Grenadine to make mocktails tonight, and got both the wife and daughter new food thermoses with fold-out spoons. We're going abroad for a month, and I figure these will pay for themselves if we take one night's dinner with us for lunch on some of the next days.

For dinner, super easy but fun (what I'm always looking for so not to freak out cooking): chicken thighs in a vegetable jam with rice and asparagus salad, strawberries with chocolate syrup for dessert.

Hope everyone has a pleasant evening! Love to all.

My advice to the guys: get her spontaneous gifts that show you've been listening to and thinking about her. My favorite gift from my husband was a key chain he got me at one of those cheap stores on the boardwalk in Santa Monica, while he was on a work trip. You pick beads that have letters on them to create whatever word you want. He did his nickname for me. It probably cost $6. I had it until the thing broke apart and I was so sad when that happened. It didn't need to be expensive or fancy; he got me something personal while he was away and that's what made it a great present.

I travelled a lot in a sales job and would go into the college bookstores wherever and get her the traditional coed school sweatshirt (Providence, Tulane, UTEP, etc). Did this for years and she loved it. Daughter has since raided this supply and many good ones are missing. I am staying out of it.
