OT - USMNT v Mexico in Columbus
There will be soccer played tonight in the heartland of Ohio. A very desperate Mexico team, sporting 8 points in qualifying will come play the good guys. What was once unfathomable - a Mexico squad not qualifying for the World Cup - is now on the table, as Costa Rica, US, and Honduras are ahead of the team, with Panama only 1 point behind. Mexico will be desperate and the U.S. will be lacking it's best player, Mr. Bradley. The atmosphere should be electric...positively "Seattle-like". If only they had let me win the lottery for tickets - not that I am bitter.... (ok I'm bitter).

This looks really bad
September 10th, 2013 at 8:20 PM ^
Now we are settling in.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:21 PM ^
First 15 minutes - lots of sloppy play, no real build up by either team.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:24 PM ^
That was close.... O.o
September 10th, 2013 at 8:25 PM ^
Terrible giveaway by Gonzalez.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:26 PM ^
That is where we are going to miss Besler. Omar is great in the air, but as good as Besler on the ball.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:31 PM ^
Gonzalez playing horrid. Unpresured giveaway - seems like the moment has swallowed him whole.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:32 PM ^
Lots of shots by México seems like desperation mode to me since it's a team that always tries to get to the goal line with the ball under control.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:35 PM ^
If that was a Mexican player we would see a dive there. Really tough run by Dempsey to keep his feet and find Donovan making the run.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:37 PM ^
Second 15 minutes, both teams with a few dangerous penetrations. U.S. getting feet under themselves in last 5-6 minutes.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:37 PM ^
DAMN!
September 10th, 2013 at 8:54 PM ^
Third 15 minutes goes to Mexico, but no breakthrough. US did little in that 15. Dos Santos most dangerous player on pitch tonight.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:07 PM ^
So overhyped and a huge underpormerer in the last 3-4 years... except he brings the noise vs. the US like it is very personal.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:08 PM ^
Agreed. You'd think he was a Spartan playing the Wolverines.
September 10th, 2013 at 8:55 PM ^
This seems like one of those games where our defenders let though an opportunity Howard can't save. US is going to need at least 2 goals because Mexico is going to score.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:01 PM ^
Agreed. The link up in the midfield is really lacking without Bradley.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
And I can remember hollering nepotism whenever I saw him on the pitch, shows how much of a soccer expert I am
September 10th, 2013 at 9:06 PM ^
If anything it was almost in the reverse.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
1. Mexico had the most energy in the first 20...
2. We had more possession.
3. Great halfs from Howard, Johnson, and Gonzalez.
4. Need the ole reliable counter from Landon to produce a big opportunity.
5. If we can score first this thing gets crazy as Mexico is mentally oh so fragile...
September 10th, 2013 at 9:11 PM ^
Are there two Gonzalez's out there? I thought he was the worst player out there - giveaways galore. :)
September 10th, 2013 at 9:12 PM ^
U.S. with 2 good chances but off by a few feet here and there (no pun intended)
September 10th, 2013 at 9:13 PM ^
EDDIEEEEEE on a CORNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 10th, 2013 at 9:13 PM ^
EJ is insane.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:13 PM ^
Goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Eddie Johnson with a big one.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:14 PM ^
Holy awful goalie play - if you come out you MUST GET IT
September 10th, 2013 at 9:14 PM ^
We needed that one, but don't let up.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:14 PM ^
Pressure on mexico just increased exponentially
September 10th, 2013 at 9:16 PM ^
Are the couches safe in Mexico City?
September 10th, 2013 at 9:20 PM ^
Haha. I like it. Iwouldnt be surprised if Mexico channels their inner MSU and things get more chippy out there as they play a little more desperate.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:18 PM ^
Mexyyyy Noooo!!! Never gets old.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:25 PM ^
Fourth 15 minutes tilt US way with a goal. Mexico seemed staggered for first 5 minutes after goal, starting to wake up after. Every minute from here the vice tightens. Expect a lot of "11 behind the ball" from U.S. now. A Honduras win tonight combined with Mexico loss could spell disaster for our friends from the south. Also they wear 2 ugly colors - red & green.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:34 PM ^
Is Aron Johanssen(sp) cap-tied to the USA yet? And if so, does he make our top 11 for the World Cup next year?
September 10th, 2013 at 9:36 PM ^
that he's quite young, and still very much developing. He got some action against Bosnia and played well. I personally think he'll make the world cup roster, but wont start unless injuries.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:41 PM ^
Thanks..sounds like he's some needed depth now, and would be looking to get a bigger role as Dempsey and Donovan get older
September 10th, 2013 at 9:40 PM ^
No, he basically plays what Landon, Dempsey, or Altidore plays. But I hope he makes the final squad since he seems to have some nice skills.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:39 PM ^
Fifth 15 minutes, just a lot of play in between the two boxes which is fine for the U.S. Mexico simply does not look dangerous here. U.S. playing conservative, spreading Mexico out and playing keep away when possible. Desperation should be intense in last 15 for Mexico but the playmaking ability is just not there. EJ seems to have a head issue, Mix in - Dempsey goes up top.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:46 PM ^
This is seriously helpful, speaking as a fan that can't watch tonite, and your narration is better at giving me a picture of the game than most broadcast teams.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:51 PM ^
Cool.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:43 PM ^
MEXIC NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Mix with awesome play after being on pitch for 1 minute.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:42 PM ^
Mixx is so good.

Lol, Landy-cakes.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:50 PM ^
Just demoralizing action for Mexico, as 2 of the top 4 attacking players for U.S. not even playing tonight. Mexico looks useless in 2nd half. Landon gets a yellow card for delaying time on throw in. If you took Mexico's uniforms off after the first 30 minutes, you could throw in Jamaica's players tonight and you wouldn't know the difference.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:52 PM ^
You can make the argument that this Jamaica team is more dynamic and creative going forward.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:56 PM ^
and as you type that Jamaica ties Costa Rica.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:59 PM ^
Costa Rica scored late against Jamacia, and is up 1-0 in the 90'... so we can't take over the #1 spot in the table. Meanwhile, Honduras is up 1-0 on Panama near the half.
By my observation, it looks as if Mexico is headed to the playoff for the last spot with New Zealand.
***EDIT: AAAANNDDD as I say that, Jamacia tyes Costa Rica late. 1-1
September 10th, 2013 at 9:58 PM ^
LOL Dempsey with a PK attempt in closing minute of stoppage.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:58 PM ^
Mexinoooooooooooo
September 10th, 2013 at 9:59 PM ^
DEMPSEY NOOOOO! lol. Columbus secures its spot in 4 years for the next Mexico game and US heads to Brazil.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:59 PM ^
Dempseynooooo LOL
