10pm ET
World Cup Qualifying
USMNT Lineup:
Howard, Cameron, Gonzalez, Orozco, Castillo, Yedlin, Bradley, Bedoya, Dempsey, Wood
John Brooks sent back to Hertha, Besler suffered a concussion yesterday in training and Fabian Johnson not yet recovered from an injury suffered with Gladbach.
I'm ready to watch Klinsmann's 2124123215 different lineup under perform.
At some point it goes from "experimenting" to "having no idea what the fuck you are doing and just making shit up as you go".

How does Brooks not start at CB? He's arguably the best American soccer player in the world right now.

I just now saw this. I will take this off of my list of Klinsmann grievances.

I feel that MLS has destroyed US soccer. Our team is pretty aweful. Hardly any talent to find exciting. Zero players that any good Uefa club would covet. We simply have no depth of Europe-based talent, other than a couple of foreign nationals we converted (eg Brooks, Cameron) and not very good players (eg Yedlin). By comparison, look at the rosters of the 8 clubs that made up the quarter finals of the WC -- their rosters are like 100% players in the top 5-6 Uefa domestic leagues. Americans no longer go there to get training and development; as soon as one gets any kind of name for himself, MLS snatches him up. How are we supposed to get competitive with our guys all on MLS? They need to be in La Liga and Seria A and Bundesliga etc.
As I write this, its 0-2 against a really crappy team. Thanks MLS.

The Atlantic had a nice article recently about improving soccer coaching:

This guy posts lots of interesting articles on soccer development in the US. He is closely connected to the top academy teams in southern California (Galaxy and Barca USA).

High school soccer is a whole other animal. Coaches have to win or they lose their job. They can't play a possession based game because they are lucky to have 3-4 high level club players on their team. The games become kick ball contests and often a hack fest. My daughter is a keeper on the D2 state runner-up team and it can be painful to watch.

I too, wish the guys that were capable of staying in Europe would stay there. No reason for them to come back unless they're not capable of getting playing time in those bigger leagues. Dempsey coming back doesn't bother me too much. He proved himself and wasn't going to get any better in his 30s by staying in Europe. Might as well come home and make more money. But I wish MLS would do away with DPs. They just block the younger guys for a year or two. Generate more interest in the league and bring more money in, but I think the overall development of the league would be fine with emphasizing young Americans

between classes of talented American players. With Donovan, Dempsey, Howard etc. done or past their prime the current crop of American born players in the 23-30 age range is weak. Cameron and Bradley are decent but can also be brutal to watch at times. There are some exciting talents under the age of 21 based in Europe w/ 17 yr old Christian Pulisic getting minutes with a good Dortmund side, Miazga and Carter-Vickers in England w/ Chelsea and Tottenham, and Zelalem w/ Rangers on loan from Arsenal. Those guys aren't quite ready for full-time run in the senior national team but are close. There are several other American teens in top academies in Europe but obviously they are years away at this point. The 2018 World Cup cycle could be a tough one but 2022 could see the US becoming a more noteworthy side.
Yes, it looks bad now, but there are some positives for the future and to say that MLS is preventing young players from getting development in Europe is completely false. The players who opted for MLS over Europe in recent years were already past the main development stage of their careers, with Jordan Morris being a rare exception.
EXACTLY what happened to Morris. Its going to happen over and over.

You could argue Morris's develeopement was stunted by playing in the NCAA. Which plays fewer games than the MLS and even worse developement.
