saaaad.
baaaaaaad.
The greens are fine. It is mostly fescue with some poa mixed in, which is why they look mottled. They roll fine and is very fun to play on.
Without water or moisture in the ground, poa does not bloom nor grow and it actually gets slicker. Which is why for the afternoon rounds, the stimps are running at 12 compared to 11 in the morning.
Stimps aint the issue.
I couldn't care less about non-uniformity. This ain't Masters.
I don't really care either, but the greens definitely suck. Oddities are always fun, so whatever.
I really like on-line featured group coverage, been good at the Masters too. I just keep wishing they realize that full mic-ed up and limited announcing is the best way to go.
These greens don't suck. I've played there 100 times and these are some of the truest greens you will find.
But Id rather listen to them than Chris Berman on ESPN or Jonny Miller on NBC...they are absolutely horrific to put up with.

I completely forgot it was on FOX. For me, learning it was on FOX would be similar to hearing M signed with Adidas for an average amount of money.
What does the fox say?
Chambers Bay is about as much fun as you can have on a golf course where you can hit almost any shot you can think of. A 32 handicapper can play it while not losing a ball while even the best players in the world can have all kinds of problems. It is fantastic golf.

How does someone post a 65 while not getting rewarded for good shots?

Dustin wasn't dropping bombs... and I thought greens were horrible.

The course is long and due to the firmness of the green, you have a HUGE advantage if you can hit shorter irons into the green (more height and spin), allowing you to hit closer to the pin. Dustin had an EXCELLENT day with his irons and that is why he is at the top.
Similar story for Stenson who is also a long hitter.
If you can hit long and make 10 footers, you are going to score here.

The greens are quite receptive, actually. Most wedge shots are sticking within 5 feet of where they land. There are sideboards and ridges to slow your shots or direct your ball towards the middle if needed. All it takes is imagination and skill to get the ball close. There are a ton of guys shooting under par (for US Open). If anything, it is playing too easy (mostly because of easy pin positions).

Watching Tiger (missed WAAAY to the right), Oosthuizen (double bogey), Fowler (double bogey) play #8 was like watching myself play there...

Joe Buck was meh. Normans ok. I'm not sure why they decided on the two people that they have doing the player post round interviews. Some chick for eye candy i suppose and the other is a college football announcer. I wish they would have actually shown more actual golf. I realize the 2 feature groups had the big names, but man sometimes they would only show maybe 3 or 4 shots per hour from someone outside those 2 groups.

tiger epic fail :(
Tiger is doing really well today.
Hate the color ring effect aroun the pin
Fowler and Woods WTF?
Lived on Banbridge Island for 4 years. Miss breathing that NW air.
I only saw them do the green ring around the whole once in the few hours of coverage i watched tonight. However they are doing that green shading thing that better shows just how undulating the greens are and i think that is a nice touch since you can't really tell on tv.
"He's taken off his shoes and one of his socks and...actually, I think he's crying."
I didn't get a chance to watch FoxSports1, but was able to stream the morning's featured group of Mickelson, Watson and Cabrera via the US Open official website. While the play of the golfers, and the views of the course, were fantastic, the color team of Tim Brando and Mark Brooks left a lot to be desired. It seemed like they were always at odds with each other (even down to the comments Brando made over and over again about lefties having a course advantage over righties which was likely due, primarily, to Brando being a lefty). Natalie Gulbis did a fine job and had a lot of indepth knowledge about the course and the types of shots required.
