Best of luck, Aubrey! UCF looks to be a pretty decent team this year.

If you do get a chance to watch UCF, check out their Center: Tacko Fall. Dude is like 7-foot-6 and wears some crazy Rec Specs.

You never know with players who transfer out.  Sometimes they don't say anything overtly negative, but there can be a negative tone if you read between the lines.  His comments were effusively positive, which you don't always get from a player who transfers after one or two years.

That was an interesting read. I actually might seek out a UCF hoops game on TV when there is one airing now as I had nearly forgotten that Dawkins transferred there, but then I remember it was for the chance to play for his dad.

Thanks for sharing that.

I don't remember Johnny Dawkins offering Aubrey when he was coaching for Stanford in 2014. Johnny Dawkins didn't get fired until 2016. The article makes it sound like it was a lifelong dream for them to be together. Stanford is a private school. They can admit anyone they want.

Correct - the unspoken thought at the time was that Aubrey didn't meet the academic requirements.  Though also remember he was a very unheralded recruit that Michigan grabbed somewhat at the last minute while trying to fill out their roster.

I wish him the best and would love to see UCF make the tournament.

Don't fall for that. You can't field a team of high level athletes if they all have to meet the academic standards of the rest of the student body. If they had to come up with 85 geniuses to fill out their football team, they would be like Georgetown where people wouldn't even realize they have a team. They can and do admit whomever they want.

Yes an no.   The athletes aren't getting perfect ACTs/SATs like most of the students at Stanford, but their standard is significantly above the NCAA minimum.  All of the kids we lost to them were really smart kids.   Hence Harbaugh's 2007 comments.

Michigan is above the NCAA minimum in most cases too, which is why we're competing with Stanford for recruits, but we're not going to tell a kid like D'Shawn Hand that he can handle Michigan Engineering and Michigan Football.

Stanford and Northwestern are the only schools who I've ever thought were earnest about not lowering their standards and I have my doubts about Northwestern.

Last article says Stanford students need a 26 ACT whereas I believe the NCAA minimum used to be 16 (25 years ago).

Didn't realize that guy shot 43% from three at Michigan. The '18 team (where he would have been a senior) could have used him against 'Nova.
