OT: Super Bowl : What's on your menu?

Submitted by Wendyk5 on February 10th, 2023 at 7:57 PM

I always appreciate hearing what people here are making for the big game. For me it's an opportunity to cook for a small crowd (this year only 7). Our menu includes ancho chile chili, made with a pretty intense ancho chile paste; cornbread; and chicken taquitos with crema. Dessert is still tbd. Does anyone even have room for dessert? So what's on your menu for Sunday?

Homemade chicken (breast) tenders, white castle style homemade sliders, 5 layer taco dip, and some healthier side. Not sure on dessert either lol. Probably a Costco cake, sister in law had a birthday this week so double dipping (well, triple really with V Day).

I have a small slab of spare ribs with my name on it in the fridge. I've a hankering for a bourbon-maple glaze, so I'll try to find a good recipe for one, but might just open a bottle of something and improve it with my cupboard full of herbs and spices. I have a bit of leftover coleslaw, maybe will bake a potato or fix a simple side of cacio e pepe. Keeping it pretty low key this year, just like 'bout every other year. I don't care who wins, and also don't care to overeat either, as I've been slowly gaining weight over the past four months.

Rolling solo this year, so the menu is very basic: pizza at halftime. Probably a burger or two sometime during the afternoon. Labatts to help put any internal fires out.

Just my wife and kids this year, but that's no reason not to have a fun menu. Hot wings, mini calzones, and a crudite platter with a growler of Porter from our local brewery.

I have no dog in the SB fight this year, but still pretty pumped!

I've never made a classic Italian meatball, with pork and veal. Going to try that and Marcella Hazan's simplest marinara on a fresh five-grain sub roll with a rocket salad for my wife and I, drink a hard Kombucha spritzer, my new favorite drink when I drink at all. My daughter is away at college, but we're going to watch and message each other. Suddenly this year, she blossomed into a Michigan and football fan, I think as a way for us to connect from afar. We don't always even like football, but it makes it fun.

Cheese. Meat. Jalapeños. Nachos. Avocado.

Some kind of alcohol.

Wine (Communion)

Go Chiefs!!!

No matter what happens, it will not taste as good as the Sloppy Joes after THE GAME. I'll take that memory to the grave.

I’m putting two racks of ribs in the sous vide tomorrow and finishing on the grill Sunday. Add oven roasted broccoli and cauliflower with some homemade focaccia and wash it down with Guinness Draft and we’ll be in literal hog heaven.

Out family tradition is that my wife and I and our kids (15 and 11) all stay home to watch the game together. We all come up with foods that we can eat on the couch watching the game. This year:

Homemade pigs in a blanket

Homemade mini beef empenedas

Teriyaki glazed pan fried dumplings

Wings (Buffalo and BBQ)

Homemade chicken tenders

Dessert is fresh baked chocolate chip cookies

We make pretty large quantities of each and all end up eating way too muc, but it’s a pretty awesome tradition!

Usually have a large spread of apps, but toning it way down this year.  It's just me, the wife, and the kid, after all...  And the wife and 11-yo kid hardly eat anything!  I'll make some slow-cooker BBQ meatballs and a crab dip.  But, since we have some buttermilk to entice one of the dogs to eat better, I'm making some creme fraiche' to add into a havarti, gouda, and parm mac-n-cheese.

Hmmm...  None of these things really go together.  Might need to go get a small Boston Butt to smoke to help tie it all together.

And this is how I always end up making way more food than we'll eat in a week...

I just now realized it: this board is full of foodies. Myself included.

(Super Bowl tradition thanks to my father-in-law, another foodie -- Velveeta and chili dip.)
