OT: Socks of the Brave, The Michigan Difference

Submitted by Larry Sellers on

After all of the despicableness going down in Columbus, I figured it's a good time to recognize a fellow Michigan Man and the work he is doing to help make a positive impact for others. Around the 4th of July a friend of mine told me about a company founded by a Ross School grad called Socks of the Brave. It is a new "Bold Sock" style company with military themes (think casual camo street and athletic socks) that provides donations to Service Members and Veterans through a Buy 1, Give 1 model.

I was a little skeptical at first, because I don't usually go for flashy socks. But I figured, what the heck, it was for a good cause. So I bought a couple pairs thinking I would give one away to a friend who's into "bold" style socks. But I gotta say, I am really impressed. They are really well made and don't come off as ostentatious as I initially thought they would. I ended up keeping them all and have been wearing them proudly ever since.

So, considering the recent circumstances with Meyer and that shameless fanbase, I figured it was a pretty good time to highlight and support a fellow Wolverine and the positive "Difference" he is making with this endeavor. I recommend checking out their site (socksofthebrave.com). There's even a page where you can even submit tributes to a Service Member or Veteran you know. So, I just bought a pair for an old high school buddy who is finishing his 20 years next July and will submit a recognition of him when he get's them.

No matter what happens on the field, I am thankful these are the examples being set by members of the Michigan Community.

Nice pitch - easily adapted for any audience.  You may have missed the chance to really get in while the self-righteousness was hot though--back when Penn State and Michigan State went through their horrors.  Right now, I'm simply exhausted from feeling self-righteous to use it as a motivation to spend money.  Cheers though, and good luck on Shark Tank.
