OT: Ryder Cup - Day Two - Foursomes (alternate shot) early, followed by Four ball

Submitted by Amazinblu on September 30th, 2023 at 3:40 AM
Day Two of the Ryder Cup is underway. If you follow golf, you know the Euros dominated Day One’s play. The golf should conclude before college football games kickoff today. Will you watch golf instead of Game Day or Big Noon? Any thoughts about the play, chances for the US team, the course, etc?

Additional detail was not include in the headline / description because of a comment shared by a fellow blogger to allow those recording / watching later - to not be spoiled with information about results. It’s almost 4:00 am EDT, the first group out is on the 9th hole - and, at first glance, it doesn’t appear much has changed from Day One. Euros lead in three matches - the US leads in one.

Koepka made a comment / inference about Rahm’s play (and incredible putt on the 18th hole to halve their four ball match on Friday) - and from an AP report that Rahm was pouting / acting like a child. I didn’t see that from Rahm - maybe Rahm thought it was amazing he eagled two of his final three holes. Regardless, the pair of Koepka and Scheffler are being taught a lesson by Hovland and Aberg - who are dormie - they’re up 8 holes, with 8 holes to play - it could be an all time record for futility. The Euros won that match 9 & 7.

Two things are “official”, in the morning session - the US will not gain ground on the five point lead the Euros had after Day One. Second - it only took ten (10) matches for the US to actually win a match / full point.

Can’t embed from my phone but here it is:

Understand from several sources that the US team room is fractured, a split led predominantly by Patrick Cantlay.
Cantlay believes players should be paid to participate in the Ryder Cup, and is demonstrating his frustration at not being paid by refusing to wear a team cap.

96 - thanks - I looked it up and saw the same information. You would think this could have been brought up in team meetings before - or - perhaps, the Player Association could discuss during the off season - and, actually define whether and how much - they would earn / be paid. His not wearing a hat caught my eye immediately. Maybe he can give one of his player passes to Rapinoe.

I don’t think you can argue any of those guys earned it. DJ has played pretty poor this year and only showed up in one major. Bryson did nothing to set himself apart. Bradley had a good year but it was mostly front loaded. Faded as the season went on.

Obviously Jt had a terrible year. Clark faded after the US Open win. Harman won the British. Other than JT or Burns, idk if anybody you named deserved to be there. Id take DJ over JT but it would be just as big of a risk considering both had crap seasons.

Bryson shot a 58 and won at Greenbrier last month, he won last weekend in Chicago he is playing great golf.  I would take DJ experience over Burns, Harmon or Clark.  Just look at what Rose has done this weekend, it's the same reason I would like to have Bradley on the team.  Neither Burns or JT should be on the team over bryson and DJ.

LIV results aren’t gonna move a needle for anybody. Smaller fields, 54 holes, nothing really on the line other than money.

Harman and Clark were auto qualifiers. The players in question would be JT, Burns and Rickie. The latter had a very good season, so I get it. Burns is a surprise, but has played well. JT is the one I’d have left home despite his Ryder Cup record. I’d take DJ over him or Burns. Nobody likes Bryson so he’d only be a distraction.

Europe just seems to get the team aspect of this down, which is interesting since they come from many different countries and cultures. Whereas the US consists of mostly country club kids and similar backgrounds.

Up and down the roster, hard to argue that Europe has the better collection of 12 players. Have loved this course as it’s nice to see something other than driver-wedge every other hole like we are most of the PGA season.
