OT: Reddit CFB Risk Update – Operation Nutcracker (5/7/18)

Submitted by ReegsShannon on

Thanks everyone for participating in the Reddit CFB Risk game over the past couple of days. We have taken big steps forward over the past couple days. Right now, we have 8 territories, which puts us tied for 4th (!) in the entire game behind Florida, Alabama, and Team Chaos. And ahead of OSU! We struck a big blow to OSU last night by taking Columbus and consolidating a large part of Michigan. Right now Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Michigan have segmented OSU significantly with enemies at all sides. We need your help to continue to defend our territories and attack any neighboring territories! We need continued participation and enthusiasm to win this thing! If you have signed up already, keep playing!

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a mild vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Go Blue!

Edit:

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as

"Attack Notre Dame", "Defend Ohio State", "Attack Akron", "Attack Michigan".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Notre Dame and Akron (as of right now, I believe that Notre Dame and OSU own those two pieces of land respectively). If you choose to attack Akron, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend OSU, means that we currently own OSU's original homeland (since we took Columbus next round). If you choose to defend OSU, it means you will be trying to protect Columbus from being taken back from us.

Here’s the map as it appears on (5/7):

wasn't 100% sure what to do. But, I saw the word "Attack" next to the Notre Dame insignia and figured that was probably the right thing to do. Let me know how to help!

Basically. What you pick to attack/defend is a territory. Each FBS team was given their own territory at start. So if you picked to attack ND, you would be attacking ND’s original territory (which may or may not be currently owned by Notre Dame). If you picked to defend OSU, you’d be defending the Columbus territory that we currently own. I’ll edit in some instructions into the post once I get past to my desk. :)

I understand Reddit b/c I'm not THAT old, but I don't really do Reddit b/c I'm not THAT young. Also, I had never heard of Discord until mgb and just tried joining on Friday. I guess I'm not able to be vetted due to my relatively low Reddit history/ratings.

I'll mosey on over to discord to see what I should be doing. Otherwise, I'll just defend osu defend the territory we took from osu (sorry, just couldn't stand to say that i would "defend osu").

I see that Florida is trying a different strategy and sneaking up the Carolina coast to take up positions near Richmond and lay seige to Lee's army....wait, mixing up wars here....

Ohio State can have Lansing. We need to push out ND so we can overtake Wisconsin from the north.

This is a great point. Maybe the thinking is that most people will just lose interest once their team is eliminated, so not everyone will become part of "team chaos". That said, I wonder if there is anything in place to keep things balanced in case a large percentage of people from eliminated teams DO stay engaged with the team chaos.

If you've been wiped off the map, you can choose between chaos or helping the team that occupies your home turf, and you can re-choose every day. Chaos is also tweaked so it is less powerful than it would be if they went with straight numbers. The makers of the game are tweaking things as they go to try to keep chaos interesting, cover up for things they didn't anticipate, and not piss off as many people as possible.
