OT: Notre Dame playing Tennessee St in 2023 (1st ever FCS foe)

And with that, we're down to 1 FBS school (USC) that will have never played an FCS school.  (UCLA was on this list too but they play Alabama State this September)

I'm not a fan at all of FBS vs FCS match-ups.  But it is what it is - the way scheduling works these days.

I was today years old when I learned that Tennessee State was an HBCU. That gives me one more reason to hope the Irish get the "Appalachian State" treatment...

I'm not going to hold his choice of universities against him forever. It's not like Michigan hasn't had former Ohio State team captains as coaches, after all. Like Gary Moeller.

I would however never get tired of reminding Eddie of how during his Heisman Trophy-wnning season he and the entire Ohio State team were thoroughly outplayed by Tshimanga Biakabutuka.

Well at least we played a 3x running FCS champ.

Tenn St. not so much.  Before you neg me to death know that I watched that game at a Michigan bar here in San Diego.  It was BTN first game I believe but that wasn't available to me yet.  Right next door was the Ohio bar.  The M bar was easily 4x the size with 5x the people.  We all got to walk out to the Ohio fucks serenading us in the street singing all their Ohio fuck songs about Michigan.  It sucked.

I believe the reason at the time was that Oregon was on the schedule and the thought was that playing Appalachian State would give the defense a good look of what to expect albeit against a FCS opponent. History has proven that it was a sound game plan but like Mike Tyson said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

I don't know if ND needs to do anything that makes their schedule any tougher. I mean they already have to deal with teams like Navy and Boston College on an annual basis- and they had a dogfight against Toledo last year!

[EDIT: ND's schedule was fairly decent ast year but generally I think it's pretty soft. They cling to their independence so the strength of schedule really fluctuates on how good their ACC draw is and if USC and Stanford are worth a damn. Wisconsin isn't typically on the schedule and it looks like they play Ohio State next year but that is not usually the case (GO IRISH!!!). But I had to diss them for this.]

If I was dictator of college football, any D-I school that played an FBS school would be automatically ineligible for the playoffs.

I don't understand why they don't do better than they do. I was doing research on my masters program 10-12 years ago when I lived near Huntsville AL. Alabama A&M was so much cheaper than UA-Huntsville, why would I have gone to UA-Huntsville?

It's just a piece of paper and 3 letters after your name once you get far enough into your career, I don't get why you would pay more.

As noted TSU is a HBCU. I think HBCU should be exempt from the “No FCS” because so many are underfunded and could use the large payouts associated with payday games.
