If there's a time for personality red flags to drop someone, it's probably the year after Johnny Football's rookie season.

And didn't he just have an intense pre-draft ethics coaching session with Harbaugh?
February 18th, 2015 at 2:29 PM ^
And the day after he inks his deal his accuser is going to take him to civil court for damages. The lawyer is already on contingency.

Will you help me delete one of the two lists (duplicate) ? I can't get rid of it....derp.

I think teams will really fall in love with Mariota. I strongly feel that he's the 1st off the board. It's really cool that both of the highest rated QB's are actually throwing in the combine this year. Usually the highest rated guys either don't show up at all, or do all the drills minus the throwing.

Maybe, but if Tampa doesn't take the kid from their own back yard I'll be pretty surprised.

Well I for one really hope the Lions don't sign a DT...

That guy is just that good, man. You have to take him twice.

Sanchez is gone and the only remaining QB's are Matt Barkley and GJ Kinnie so I have a hard time seeing the Eagles letting go of the best QB on their roster. Especially when that QB is 14-4 with the current head coach.

if Funchess goes in the first round.
February 18th, 2015 at 9:16 AM ^
He is 6'5 230 runs a sub-4.4 40 and will probably jump >38 in. Some team will oggle over his measurables and risk it. Especially likely is Denver at the end of the first round, as it is unlikely that they keep both Julius and Demayrius Thomas
February 18th, 2015 at 9:38 AM ^
There is no way in hell he runs a true sub 4.4 40. He is probably a 4.5-4.6 guy.
February 18th, 2015 at 9:46 AM ^
but didn't he also seem to drop a lot of balls and avoid contact like it was ebola last season?
February 18th, 2015 at 10:09 AM ^
His 2014 highlight reel was completed in August.
February 18th, 2015 at 10:44 AM ^
If he runs sub 4.6, he will be a 1st rounder.
The stress an athletic flex TE/WR puts on OLBs, safeties would be too much to pass up for a lot of teams.
If he could learn to block....
February 18th, 2015 at 2:20 PM ^
If he could learn to catch....
February 18th, 2015 at 10:05 AM ^
According to wikipedia the average 40 time at the NFL Combine for WRs is 4.55s. Given that I've never seen Funchess run past a B1G corner (I have seen him out jump over them) I doubt that he runs anywhere near a 4.4s. His Hello post has him between 4.6 and 4.7 and if I remember correctly kids don't get that much faster in college.
Honestly I'm taking the over on 4.55s. He has just average speed for a WR.

Yea but look how good his vertical is.

Maxx Williams will go before Funchess

Didn't the Packers just cut their TE who couldn't catch? Why do they want another?

Suh and Fairley are free agents this season. The Lions could lose them both. The best DT available would be a good move for them.
February 18th, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
February 18th, 2015 at 10:48 AM ^
I think Suh is staying, and Goldman would be a perfect replacement for Fairley.
Hopefully an interior OL would be the Lions 2nd round pick.
February 18th, 2015 at 9:11 AM ^
I'd really like to see the Lions grab Funchess...
February 18th, 2015 at 9:52 AM ^
A TE/WR hybrid with the dropsies in the first round again?
February 18th, 2015 at 2:06 PM ^
Matt Millen. Is that you???
February 18th, 2015 at 9:13 AM ^
While I like taking Strong much more than Funchess (although he's not available in this theoretical scenario) at 32, the Pats are projected to take a WR at the end of the first round every year. Let me tell you the last time they took a WR in the first round......1996 - Terry Glenn. We will trade down or take someone Belichick really likes on D or OLine.

I'd like to see the Lions get a QB.
February 18th, 2015 at 10:06 AM ^
in the first round? Expand upon those thoughts...
February 19th, 2015 at 1:05 AM ^
I have never been a fan of Stafford and don't think he will ever take the Lions any further than he has.
I would honestly take Winston or Mariotta over him and go from there, but I know the franchise would never do that.
Something the franchise must do is get a real backup on this roster. The Lions don't push him to be any better because they make sure the backup is bad enough to not challenge him.
Maybe grab a QB in the mid rounds
February 18th, 2015 at 9:27 AM ^
Do you think Funchess projecting as a TE or WR changes his draft position at all? Or is everyone pretty much looking at him as a hybrid?
February 18th, 2015 at 9:48 AM ^
February 18th, 2015 at 9:33 AM ^
No way in hell is Marota going #1. He's not even going to go in the top 10 IMO unless some stupid team like mine makes a stupid move. He's a system QB with gaudy numbers (hello every Texas Tech QB under Leach) that the NFL is very wary of. If he falls to #12 the Browns will prolly take him (lots of chatter around here that the GM Farmer loves him for some reason) but he aint going in the top 10.
Reback it.

Here's what I would do if I were the Browns GM:
1. Resign Hoyer - he's the best free agent QB out there and all he costs you is money. The Browns are a ton under the cap so bringing him back doesnt cost draft picks or other potential FAs. He's one year removed from the ACL surgery (never ran once last year) and having a healthy Alex Mack will do wonders for his game.
2. Sign the best DT or WR on the board at 12 & 18
3. Tell Manzeil he was a naughty boy last year and because of it he's going to sit and watch Hoyer play for a while. Maybe if he stays sober and actually learns the playbook (and grows a few inches) he might turn out one day to be a decent NFL QB. In the meantime Johnny Football you're a back-up and will remain a backup unless Hoyer gets hurt.
4. Continue to build the defense through Free Agency and the draft. Make the srongest part of your team even stronger.
