It seems as though the D was decent enough when we were healthy and had all the starters, but injuries have crushed our secondary and also have hurt the DL -- wasn't Houston expected back? Anyway, it's hard to get starters AND decent depth when building from nothing like the Lions were a couple years ago. Still a year or two away, it seems.
Aside from that, what they see in Anzalone I have no idea. He wouldn't start for most teams.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
Houston should be back soon, IIRC. Playoffs for sure. I think they could also get Alim and CGJ (or whatever his name is now) around then.
Injuries definitely hurting but I'm more concerned about the general execution, especially in that front 7. Been bad lately outside of Hutch and even he has had some lapses.

To play off the Goff comment above, his mechanics seems to be a bit wonky the last few weeks. Indoors or outdoors, pressure or clean pocket, laser or a bit taken off the throw it seems like every ball is coming off his hand a bit wonky. Lots of ducks whether they make it to the target or not. A glove today is surely making that a bit worse but it's been noticeable even indoors.
Then again I think Goff was always prone to the occasional duck so I'm not sure if it's an odds thing or a pattern.

Am I the only one hearing a whistle from the stands?
December 10th, 2023 at 2:17 PM ^
Maybe your tea kettle is done
December 10th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
Before the 3rd and 3 and the play after LaPorta’s catch there’s a whistle blowing right before the snap.

JFC, why is Campbell letting the clock expire?
Edit: Campbell finally called a TO.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
I hope this year's Bama doesn't have a Gibbs-like RB. He is wiley and fast.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:23 PM ^
Well the game started as poorly as it could have and yet the Lions are still going into to the half with the lead. Thank god the Bears decided to do a pitch on 4th and inches instead of the Bush Push.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:25 PM ^
Especially considering they ran it successfully about 4-5x the last meeting, IIRC. I get it was a full yard and not inches but I was also surprised they ran that pitch, a bit of a faux counter-toss with a bad sell. I'll take it.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:24 PM ^
Thank you for waking up in the 2nd quarter, those are the 2023 Lions that we know.

This thread is a little too close appriximation to the Fansville commercial where the entire town gives up on the season one play in
December 10th, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
Are you new to game threads on this site?
December 10th, 2023 at 2:33 PM ^
I'm actually surprised at how generally reasonable it's been. The defense picked it up those last two possessions but was atrocious until then, picking up where it left off the last few weeks. I don't blame anyone for being bothered by that.
Plus a lot of people have lifelong Lions PTSD so who can blame any fan for constantly seeing the sky falling on a play-by-play basis?
So I'm surprised by the amount of legit football talk. People giving fair opinions based on things outside of that PTSD, etc. I think I only read a single "SOL" comment so I'll call that a good thread haha.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:27 PM ^
ugly start but up at half. smiling shrug emoji.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
If the Lions win their division, there’s a non-zero chance they’ll play Matthew Stafford and the Rams in the first round.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:33 PM ^
As a 54 year-old Lions fan, it’s very hard to let go of the SOL sense of foreboding. 9-3 can only mean they’re about to go 9-7 and miss the playoffs. Chicago on the road at 9-3 and getting asses handed to them, plus laundry all over the field, in the first Q = here we go again. And yet… And yet…?
maybe these’re not the SOL? I think I’d better hold off a couple more weeks, just to be safe 🤣
December 10th, 2023 at 2:41 PM ^
47 year old and I suffer from the same lifelong malady! I always expect the SOL to show up and lay an egg.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:46 PM ^
it would be 9-8 since the NFL went to 17 games.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:40 PM ^
Goff missed St. Brown on the crossing route with a good couple steps on his defender for the easy conversion.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:44 PM ^
Noticed that, too.
When Williams gets better with the ball in the air he'll be so dangerous because he'll almost always have a step or two on his guy. A good ball? Huge gain. Underthrown? Comes back to it against a DB running for his life to keep up with him, often drawing a PI.

Brian Ferentz and the Jets are a match made in Hades.

Holy hold on Hutch!
December 10th, 2023 at 2:50 PM ^
holy crud, hutch gets held beyond belief.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:53 PM ^
Love it when the broadcasters watch the replay 5 times in a row, we see Hutch held 5 times, and their only comment is "great protection"
December 10th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
Two 3-and-outs to start the 2nd half is not encouraging.
December 10th, 2023 at 2:58 PM ^
Lions continued commitment to not participating in the third quarter is incredible.
December 10th, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
I think the first half of the season was actually bad for Goff’s ego. He believed his own press. And now reality has set in.
December 10th, 2023 at 3:02 PM ^
He's a dome QB. Weather is bad for him. If he's the QB, Lions need home field advantage throughout the playoffs, because they have no chance in January in SF or Philly.
December 10th, 2023 at 3:03 PM ^
Anzalone got tackled!
December 10th, 2023 at 3:07 PM ^
They don't trust Goff to throw it seems
December 10th, 2023 at 3:08 PM ^
Like the KC game week 1, the Bears OL opposite Hutchinson is lining up in the backfield and starting early, but no false start calls.
December 10th, 2023 at 3:08 PM ^
Three-consecutive three-and-outs to start the 2nd half against a team that’s 4-8. Sad Lions are sad.
December 10th, 2023 at 3:09 PM ^
The Lions run plays are too slow to develop.
December 10th, 2023 at 3:09 PM ^
This is the Jared Goff the Rams traded. Dude looks defeated
December 10th, 2023 at 3:10 PM ^

December 10th, 2023 at 3:17 PM ^
Terrible call! Intentional grounding
December 10th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
HOW IS THAT NOT INTENTIONAL GROUNDING
December 10th, 2023 at 3:22 PM ^
Not a hint of an eligible receiver in the ZIP code
December 10th, 2023 at 3:24 PM ^
I clearly don’t understand intentional grounding if that isn’t an example of it.
