Low chances of taking non-grad transfers right? It can happen but seems difficult.
October 6th, 2022 at 2:52 PM ^
Well it is ND
October 6th, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
undergrad from ND and a master’s from UofM ain’t too shabby.
October 6th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
I understand that he will have his degree from Notre Dame, so I think he would be a grad transfer.
October 6th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
Hopefully Santa brings presents this year and gets this problem fixed.
October 6th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
He's a grad transfer. EDIT: What BlueNE said.
October 6th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Sounds like he has decided to enter the portal and not play the rest of the year. Anyone else wonder about going after a guy that drops out mid season? I trust Elston on so we shall see if there’s interest.
October 6th, 2022 at 4:18 PM ^
Nick Bosa is having a terrific NFL career after doing just that with no hint of performance or character issues. He’s only played in 4 games this season so he’d be preserving his redshirt by making this move. I’d take a chance on him as a grad transfer. Can never have too many DL.
Edit: apparently he was heartbroken over his decision and did not take it lightly. Sounds like a good kid.
October 7th, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
He graduated and is currently working on Master degree in one of their grad programs
October 6th, 2022 at 2:57 PM ^
Jacob Lacey was a CB for the Colts in the 2000s, so I was a bit confused at first as to how he was able to transfer.
October 6th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
He is a grad transfer too
October 6th, 2022 at 3:03 PM ^
35 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one batted down pass in 4 years....Wonder what Elston thinks of him.
October 6th, 2022 at 6:17 PM ^
If he's losing time at ND, highly doubt he would get time here with Benny, Graham, Grant, Jenkins (hopefully) next year.
But seems like we're set on taking a depth DT transfer each year so he could be next in line after Whittley and Goode.
October 7th, 2022 at 9:47 AM ^
Disagree. We took Whitley and Goode, neither of whom had a chance to crack the starting lineup.
October 6th, 2022 at 3:05 PM ^
Here's a link to his ESPN profile since I was left wanting more info about this guy.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4570065/jacob-lacey
He's an oddly shaped DL at 6-1, 280 who seems to have been a rotation player but not an impact player during his career based on the fact that he does have stats in most games, but hardly any of them.
I'd be happy to take on some depth with a player from a P5 team who Elston knows....but I'm skeptical of mutual interest. We should remain pretty deep on the NT/DT/SDE front with the youth we have and he would likely be a depth piece not unlike Goode this season. He might be looking for a bigger role and we might be looking for other pieces. Would be happy to take him though.

Seems like we snag a grad transfer on the dline every year. So why not 🤷
October 6th, 2022 at 4:08 PM ^
And it seems like 50/50 odds whether that d-line transfer is either a depth guy or a big get. See Mike Danna (hit) -> Whitley (depth) -> Cam Goode (depth) -> Eyabi Okie (hit)
50/50 odds on a great d-line player seems like a good gamble

Probably going to Michigan State
October 6th, 2022 at 4:17 PM ^
guarantee to start.
October 6th, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
DT is the one spot on the team that doesn’t need anyone…they’re pretty solid there.
October 6th, 2022 at 6:04 PM ^
Play CB at state
October 6th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
Can he play DE? oh wait....
October 6th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
According to 247 he's quiting the team this year and taking a redshirt.
October 6th, 2022 at 4:23 PM ^
Elston was his primary recruiter at ND for those wondering. Seems like we offered and he committed to ND the same day he took a visit to Michigan. So maybe there's something there. 2 sacks on the year so far.
October 6th, 2022 at 4:46 PM ^
Former 4* DL transfer?
Yes Please.
October 6th, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
I thought we're at the point where we are only taking former 5* transfers ... /sarc
October 6th, 2022 at 6:02 PM ^
Transfer portal! Send us all your large sons!
October 6th, 2022 at 7:04 PM ^
Here is to hoping his ceiling is Mike Danna on third downs. /s
October 6th, 2022 at 7:04 PM ^
You're going to see more and more kids do this...play 4 games and shut it down and enter the portal.
It's a crazy time.
October 6th, 2022 at 7:09 PM ^
Seems like a tweener? Not big enough for the interior and not fast enough for the edge? I'd guess MAC or BIG West for him.
October 6th, 2022 at 7:35 PM ^
If he's interested would make sense as a depth guy. I wouldn't pen him in as an impact player but who knows.
October 6th, 2022 at 9:19 PM ^
It's be great to have him but if he looks at the two deep I'd think he would go elsewhere.
October 6th, 2022 at 9:37 PM ^
I thought there were limited periods you could enter the portal now? Wasn’t there a rule made in August that you have to wait until playoff teams are announced?
October 6th, 2022 at 11:11 PM ^
But Lacey’s time was dwindling and trending in the wrong direction. After getting 29 snaps against Ohio State in the season-opener, he logged just 11 plays against Marshall, another 24 in his big performance against Cal, and then just nine at North Carolina.
The paragraph above is from one of the articles posted. Not every transfer is desirable.
October 7th, 2022 at 1:37 AM ^
He is Just Another Guy on a middle-of-the-pack ACC team and then quit on his team mid-season.
October 7th, 2022 at 2:15 PM ^
Kid graduated in 3 years and is currently working on a Master's degree at a high academic school. He has earned the right to transfer
October 7th, 2022 at 11:57 AM ^
Elston knows him. And, if Elston thinks he'd be a valuable addition to the roster, then who am I to disagree with his knowledge and expertise.
Regardless, wishing Jacob well as he reaches his decision.
October 8th, 2022 at 7:05 AM ^
So the kid is Johnny Tryhard who is too small to play the position effectively at a high level, and we want him why?? The article literally said he couldn’t add the size and strength needed to play well.
