OT: Mike Leach to Tennessee May Be Happening

Submitted by LS And Play on

Lots of buzz on Twitter that Tennessee is closing in on Mike Leach. Given the wild last week it seems like he'd be a great cultural fit in Knoxville. I'd think if you're a Tennessee fan you would have to be thrilled.

#Tennessee coaching search update: Source tells me the meeting with Mike Leach went very well. And... stay tuned.

Sources tell @NBCDFWSports that former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is working on a deal to become the next coach at Tennessee. A deal could be announced Friday. I’m working on more details.

Nope, the AD much, much worse than DB:

I hope this doesn't happen. Leach seems like a better fit at an school like WSU or TTU. Tennessee sounds like the kind of place where you have to kiss up to alumni and fans may not have the patience to implement his offense.

that Currie is going to be fired. Ira made it clear that there is no confirmation yet, but if it does happen, I think the odds of Brady Hoke being made interim for 2018 increase.

"Former Texas Tech coach..."

Was that supposed to be a dig at Washington State or was Newy Scruggs (Newy?!?) completely unaware that Leach has, you know, been coaching at WSU for a few years now?

So apparently in a classic Phil Fulmer move, he backstabbed Currie just when he was about to hire Mike Leach in a move to usurp the AD and take control.

Johnny Majors flashbacks anyone?

Have disliked TN since the Fullmer days and the fact the university could not have handled the situation in a worse manner. Everything they could have done right they chose to do the opposite. Got many fine professors fired and good students transferred due to being intimidated, rightfully so, by football players and backers of the program. Actual death threats are just too much. Seems like some of the schools down there, with TN being the leader, still operate with a 1817 mentality, not a 2017.

I do think Leach can win some games down there, especially with the talent that is already on campus. I think people like Pete and others will drive him nuts though why he's trying to do so. Might be a good fit in that regard. I'm certain he would have no problem telling Pete just where he can get off.
