OT: Miami Heat Go NBA-Record 40-for-40 on FTs
I couldn't have even guessed what the NBA record was for most free throws made in an NBA game without a miss, but now I know. The record WAS 39-for-39, but now it's 40-for-40. And the Heat only beat the Thunder by one point, so they needed every last one of them.
LINK.
Duncan Robinson started for the Heat but didn't contribute to the effort - he had no FT attempts. Jimmy Butler was 23-for-23.

Sounds like Shaq's fever dream.

Haha. My first thought was "I wonder if Shaq has ever made 40 FT in a month".
Great minds think alike.

Career?

I was gonna say watch Michigan this later this season.

This is incredibly impossible. Dang!
January 11th, 2023 at 8:22 AM ^
Apparently, it's credibly not impossible!

Orlando Robinson started for the heat, not Duncan Robinson fyi. Doesn’t look like Duncan played.

Orlando still hasn't changed his name to Miami? Thought he was a team player...

Shit! My bad. The “O” looked like a “D” on my screen.

Duncan Robinson is injured. Orlando Robinson started.

Duncan's unfortunately fallen off a cliff the last season and a half. Part of it might be teams have him scouted at this point, but his FG% has plummeted and he got a few DNP-CDs even before getting Inu red. Here's hoping he can regain his mojo

Free points! And now every basketball team in existence is going to renew free throw work for about two weeks...

Wow! This is incredible! I'll see if I can find a highlight reel to link here. That would be, uh, would be - uh, never mind.
Still quite an incredible feat when many players couldn't hit 40 in a row during practice with no game pressure on them.

I bet I’ve hit at least 40.
…oh hell; in a row???? No way. I was saying in my life
January 11th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
And yet, I can’t imagine watching 40 free throws was fun to watch.
January 11th, 2023 at 9:27 AM ^
Jimmy Butler is swag at the line. 23 of 23 is focus.
January 11th, 2023 at 9:36 AM ^
Tell me it was a ref show without saying it was a ref show.
January 11th, 2023 at 9:37 AM ^
Wow, can't wait to watch the 30 for 30 covering the 40 for 40.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:04 AM ^
EDIT: It was Orlando Robinson, not Duncan Robinson who played. My fault.

I love this. Spoelstra deserves kudos for enforcing the importance of free throws. It drives me nuts watching Michigan clang free throws. They are arguably the easiest shots to master, and also very important to the outcome of games, probably more important in college given that there are less possessions than in an NBA game. Make your damn free throws!

I really, really wanted to be that angry sportstalk radio caller in the 1990's but I could never muster the courage.
I prefer to yell at clouds nowadays.

Sounds like they out-cultured the FT stripe.
(if you know, you know)

While a truly incredible accomplishment, and something most teams should focus on heavily, it's also largely why I stopped enjoying watching the NBA, officials taking over the game I remember when Rip Hamilton led the Pistons in scoring with zero made baskets from the field, once.
