OT: Martyball v Raiders - An example for Harbaughl 2.0 v tOsu

I know that I'm old school and this topic of "preparing" for your rivalry game has been discussed ad nauseum. But I'm a huge fan of Marty Schottenheimer (RIP Coach!), have been a Chiefs fan since the early-90's. And loved Marty's ability to inspire and motivate his teams - especially during Raiders week.

We all know that tOsu will have more roster talent than all but Bama over the next couple years. If Harbs is hitting the reset button, he needs to completely re-evaluate the way we prepare this team for The Game. Take a page out of Marty's book and go back to the days that you hated your rival and the intensity is ramped up to 10 on the richter scale.

While there have been plenty of absurd problems and out-of-date features, it's still absurdly easy to properly post a clickable link.

Simply copy your link, look for the "chain" ? icon at the top of the comment window and click there, paste your link within the bar provided and then click "save".

Easy peasy.

Quite frankly, don't most websites / software allow you to just copy and paste?  I understand that's not how it works here, but then the web owners need to put a simple link (no pun intended) that explains a few rules of the website and how to do simple things like embed.

That would save the rest of us from listening to the crying of those that have 10M points and obviously have nothing else to do with their life than whine about people's posts.

Harbaugh hates ohio more than anyone in the country.  He rose to fame as a teenager because of his outspoken contempt for them.

Yes, Schottenheimer was an all time great football coach and I'm sure Harbaugh can learn a lot from the former coach's football career (as can anyone).

Harbaugh does not need any lesson in prioritizing the Game.

Sorry first time OP here. Thanks for posting the links properly. Harbs has talked down The Game preparation in his coach speak press conferences as "we prepare just like any other game". Says things like "the team understands the rivalry", just really bland. I agree no doubt that he completely understands the rivalry - but he doesn't call attention to it, at least we don't hear anything from behind the scenes on what he's doing to prepare the team either week prior or (better yet) throughout the year. We know that tStaee prepares all year long by running Michigan specific plays and sequences at each practice. THAT is what I'm hoping will change, as we all do. And just wanted to draw attention to this topic using Coach Schottenheimer's legendary abilities as a motivator for an example.

Because you don't know doesnt mean its not happening. Its all assumptions...but given that Harbaugh actually played in The Game for Bo and knows that his legacy as a coach of his alma mater is essentially tied to that one game it is almost impossible to believe he needs anyone to tell him to put more emphasis on the game...

When did Harbaugh ever say anything as a teenager about OSU? Pretty sure if that were true we would have seen it posted by now. Harbaugh defenders will literally make shit up to defend the guy.

If he really hates OSU as much as you think he does his teams sure have a weird way of showing it on the field and off the field compared to Hoke's teams. There's actual record of Shea saying "we prepare just like any other week".

The laziest trope in sports fandom is attributing poor results to lack of caring.   You can criticize Harbaugh's recruiting, talent development, game planning...but the idea that a guy who grew up in Ann Arbor during the height of the 10-year war between UM & OSU who played under Bo for 4 years doesn't take Ohio State seriously is ridiculous.

Never said he doesn't take them seriously. But there's a difference between taking them seriously and how Urban Meyer and OSU prepared for us vs how we prepare for them. There is also a noticable difference in how Hoke's teams played some of their best football during OSU week and talked about how big of a game it was compared to Harbaugh's teams who play some of their worst and have said they prepare like it's another game.

No, in fact the laziest take in sports and especially on here is that a team (OSU football) has too much talent and that they can't be beaten simply by being better prepared and more emotionally invested which is incredible to me because 1. That is literally how the Ten Year War started to begin with in 1969 and 2. John Beilein built the basketball program you see now by doing this

Why “Harbs” ? Is it really that onerous to type three more letters? If you need to abbreviate, why not “JH”? Or just go with “Jim”?

When I saw the reference to “Martyball,” my first thought was “he wants Harbaugh to play really conservative football and let the other team move the ball down the field late in the game?  I thought everyone was already bitching about how conservatively Harbaugh plays?”

Yeah, that's the original connotation.

Still, I liked the clips, and there is a larger point here that is accurate.

I used to believe in Jim 100%, especially when it came to The Game, but that Amazon doc was revealing in so many ways. Brash, cocky Jim Harbaugh doesn't live here anymore, and you're willfully naive if you think college kids don't take on the attitudes of their coach.

The problem isn’t the lack of locker room speeches—it’s recruiting the right players and then putting the right players in the right positions at the right moments that’s going to get us over the hump.
