OT: MAC in action - Tuesday bowl games - thoughts?
Two MAC teams are bowling today.
In the early matchup: Eastern Michigan plays San Jose State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, I believe on the blue turf of Boise.
The evening game has Toledo facing Liberty in the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl.
Weather may be a factor - with Idaho expecting a chance of snow and temps peaking out in the low 30's, while it's projected to be in the 70's in Boca. (I'll refrain from providing links to some of the more prominent weather forecasters in those parts of the country.)
FWIW - I've always like the name "Famous Idaho Potato", it's a bowl that's been around for a while.
Will you be watching? If so, what are you hoping to see. Personally, it would be great if the MAC won these two.

Yes, definitely pulling for the MAC. A bunch of regional players, like Johnson with Toledo.

Frankly I have trouble getting into these early bowl games. Next week I will watch a lot more than this week.

For those wondering
3:30pm - EMU v SJSU
7:30pm - LIB v TOL

My first thought after reading the OP was that I would be more likely to watch if I knew the time.
December 20th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
I may put the EMU game on as background noise and may catch the Toledo game after WBB is over if I can stay awake. Can't say that these game do anything for me. It would be nice if the MAC wins but I won't lose any sleep over this.

EMU is the school closest to UM so I'm wondering what most people here think of them? They aren't really a rival as I can't think of a sport where they could provide us with much competition on a consistent basis. WMU puts together a decent hockey team but I don't think EMU offers much of anything?
December 20th, 2022 at 11:46 AM ^
They offered Michigan a damn competitive basketball game.

My memory apparently sucks this morning.
I would like to see us play a football game there since I like the idea of visiting other stadiums to watch us win, but I can't fathom we'd ever agree to play in a 30,000 seat stadium 6 miles from the Big House.
December 20th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
It will never happen but that would be a cool event if it did.
December 20th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
And if we played there (which we never will) how many priority points would you need to get a ticket to the game?
December 20th, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
Resale market would probably be crazy for such a game.
December 20th, 2022 at 12:47 PM ^
but that would hinder our chances of getting into the CFP again with weak OOC schedule

Staee actually played football at the directional schools a few years ago. I'm glad we didn't, but props to them.
December 20th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
There aren't many schools in the shadow (geographically and otherwise) of another school like EMU is in UM's shadow.
Florida Atlantic / FIU and Miami? San Jose State and Stanford / Cal? Georgia State and Georgia Tech? Utah State and Utah?
December 20th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Staee and LCC?
December 20th, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
That's an even bigger shadow! : )
I'm considering only four-year schools at either the Power 5 or Group 5 level.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:35 PM ^
Duke and UNC are about the same distance apart as U-M and EMU but I dare anyone to tell an alumus of one that they are in the shadow of the other.
December 20th, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
San Jose is like 40 -50 miles from Berkeley.
LA would probably be the best example: USC, UCLA, Long Beach St., Cal St. Fullerton, etc.
Duke and UNC are really close by geograghy.
December 20th, 2022 at 12:49 PM ^
they are the best team in the state to wear green and white.......so there's that
December 20th, 2022 at 5:06 PM ^
And they are beating the crap out of the Spartans right now
Someone seriously needs to hire Chris Creighton
December 20th, 2022 at 11:26 AM ^
need to get some wings for the game, and a side of fries since its potato bowl day.
December 20th, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
Most definitely rooting for the Fighting EMUs as a local in-state team!
As for Toledo, I suppose it's not their fault the state of ohio pilfered them from Michigan back in the 1800s, so go Rockets. And, of course, go MAC!
December 20th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
Hoping Toledo wins tonight. If Hugh Freeze had stayed at Liberty, I would expect a blowout by the Flames. Since he bolted, hard to say now.
December 20th, 2022 at 11:49 AM ^
They were fairly close in SP+. Toledo 81st, Liberty 74th. Toledo actually had the higher ranked offense (69 dude) vs 83rd for Liberty. Biggest difference was Toledo's terrible special teams.
December 20th, 2022 at 12:01 PM ^
“69 dude”. Is that your personalized license plate?
December 20th, 2022 at 12:07 PM ^
duno. but ill be happy to see Liberty lose.
December 20th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
Good job, Idaho. You've turned "the potatoes have eyes" in to The Hills Have Eyes.
December 20th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
The entirety of the state of Michigan’s bowl representation this year comes from Washtenaw County. Go EMU!
December 20th, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
Two huge games that I’ll be paying close attention to, but I still can’t find any details on this year’s Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl.
December 20th, 2022 at 5:52 PM ^
My favorite bowl name (or least favorite) growing up. I thought it odd but then came, geez, what to pick, quicklane, cherry, music city, weedeater bowl.
December 20th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
Two oldest kids graduated from EMU with their undergrad (oldest later got his Masters in Immunobiology from University of Bonn and second one is wrapping up Physician Assistant School at WMU). So, GO EAGLES!!!
December 20th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
Betting EMU +3.5 (now +4) and the under 54.
And the under 54 for Liberty v Toledo (now 51, though)
December 20th, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
Wanting EMU to lose solely for the fact that they got chosen for this game. My son is an equipment manager for BG and there was a lot of speculation that BG was going to the Potato Bowl. Instead EMU got it and BG was relegated to the Quick Lane Bowl. He will be stuck in Detroit starting Thursday. Not much of a reward and it messed up all of our family Christmas plans.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:40 PM ^
Wait ...... so a 2000 mile trip to cold Boise, ID, to play in an outdoor stadium in front of 2000 fans total, all this a few days before Christmas ....... is the reward in this situation??
December 20th, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
Blocked PAT for two points totally changed this game. 30 straight from Eastern.
December 20th, 2022 at 6:54 PM ^
Eastern could have put this game away moments ago, up by 14 with first and goal---all they had to do is get the FG but instead a very poorly thrown ball is intercepted and SJ St gets new life.
Now 4:02 left and the Spartans (NOT Tuck's sparties) are nearing midfield...
December 20th, 2022 at 6:57 PM ^
Interception EMU!
That should clinch it.
December 20th, 2022 at 7:04 PM ^
Congrats to the Fighting Emus!
Now WBB on the Deuce
December 20th, 2022 at 7:13 PM ^
Congrats to EMU for a 9 win season.
December 21st, 2022 at 10:48 AM ^
Only the 2nd 9-win season in their football history, so quite an accomplishment!
