Need some more views. Saw some rumors and preview stuff that made me ready to hate them.

On the surface it's not awful; of course, we'll have to wait to see them on the field.

Bullets:

  • I don't like the chrome facemask. I didn't like the black facemask, either--I wish they would stick with the blue one they used to have, it looked sharp.
  • I greatly appreciate the effort to not upset the applecart. No fancy new colors, not a lot of bells and whistles. This is new but it's not Star Trek.
  • The elimination of black is generally a plus. Don't need it. There's one exception to this, though...
  • I really, really liked the old ROAD uniforms. I felt the moderate black trim made the blue pop, and the whole outfit really worked. My favorite Lions road uni of all time by some distance. The cost was a home uniform that I never liked much, so I'm not sure it was worth it, but this one will almost certainly be a step back--the colors just don't jump.
  • Don't like the wordmarks on the sleeves but I'll probably learn to live with them.
  • The new font is fine but I rather liked the old one.
  • I'm hopeful that the blue and silver colors will regain some of the fullness that they used to have that I feel like they've kinda lost.
  • Northwestern striping is nice and it's a smooth transition from what they had before but it seems a bit heavy to me. The helmet stripe in particular is too thick.
  • I was prepared to hate the color rush uniform and the image that they have is... actually pretty cool.
  • Final point: If this home uniform looks really good at Ford Field, which I think it might, this whole thing is worth it.

...but other than that, these are sharp. Love them getting rid of the black--which quickly became the teal of the 2000's. The silver face masks are pretty sweet looking and harken back to their pre-80's days. Overall, looks like the Lions got something right for once.

Throwback is the best one. Why not just use that as their main jersey? Are the "new" home and always even different? Other than the blue pants? LOVE the all silver alternates. Overall it all looks great.

I'll always love those throwbacks! The all-silver and blue pants are nice, too. I don't love the wording on the sleeves, but it'll grow on me.

Did the designers do a Kaizen Event and get all "creative" in order to ruin stuff and make matters worse?

I don't know why they consistently decide to make matters unnecessarily complex, but when they do, it's not cool, it's not hip. It's dumb.

It's football people. Not Glee.

I would have rather seen an all blue uniform than an all gray. I think these are an upgrade, overall. I think it would be cool if we had an inverted helmet primarily blue with a silver lion.

Broncos changed in 1997 and promptly won 2 Super Bowls (and have another with this basic design since). Rams changed right after a title & nearly won another. That nearly is because the New England Patriots, sporting shiny brand new uniforms of their own, upset them behind Tim Brady and have won four other SBs since. It's not a cure-all but a uniform is neither prescriptive nor descriptive of the state of a franchise.

Bring back Bubbles - Bubbles was truly iconic, and the new logo looks too much like clip art.

Also, GTFO my lawn with the silver alternate uniforms.  Their throwbacks were fantastic, and now they have a generic alternate.

Now where's my coffee ... ?

Pretty sure this guarantees us a playoff win. Amirite?!   Lions mgmt is hilarious.  Don't look at our shitty team....look at our fancy new uniforms (again).

BTW...I do like all 4 unis (except for the WCF which should be changed to WTF)

The Lions are the only team that made the playoffs last season in Detroit. They have a relatively new President and GM. That GM not only had the first successful, deep draft in years here, and built a team with the depth to overcome injuries and a project last place finish in the division into a playoff spot.

He followed that up with argubly the best Free Agency period of any team in the NFL this offseason. Give Quinn time to screw up before you pin the last 60 years of crap on him. The uniform update was just a piece of the puzzle, since NO ONE liked the black. Sure the font is terrible, but they aren't god awful. And what we learned from Adidas, is that "not god awful" is a win.

So open your eyes. Because the Lions are no longer a shitty team. They are average at worst, with a brighter future than the contract bloated and old Red Wings/Tigers or the contrct bloated and untalented Pistons.

Yes, the Lions were much better than anyone expected last year.  I agree with that. BUT, let's not get carried away and expect to see what we saw again this year.  They were very fortunate to have one of the easiest strength of schedules (T-27th).  This year it will be slightly more challenging (pre-season T21st).  They went 6-1 down the stretch. All 6 wins were against non- playoff teams.  Their only loss was to the Texans, who was only a playoff team because they play in the woeful AFC South....and a little credit to their defense.

Quinn has done a very good job of drafting and acquiring free agents thus far. There is hope for the future but let's not put on the rose colored sunglasses too soon. They still lack real NFL depth, need more than 1 linebacker, need 1-2 DL, and 1-2 more starting secondary players.  I am expecting 8-8 (even without a running game) but hoping Stafford can pull off some more miracles.  With 2 more good drafts and free agency cycles, 2018 could be the year we see a playoff W.

But get that WCF crap out of here. GSH patch on the bears is cool, and George Halas is an NFL Icon. William Clay Ford was a terrible, terrible owner who, to my knoweldge, has never done a damn thing to make a mark on the NFL except turn the Lions into the longest running joke in league history.

Speaking of the Broncos, you know what will endear these uniforms to the fans? Winning in them, a lot. The Broncos made a very controversial change that became a lot easier to swallow because they won titles in the new duds; they still use the same template, something otherwise unthinkable. In contrast the Browns adopted one of the worst uniform changes ever (at least I like the helmets) and have plumbed depths of incompetence that are extreme even for them, and there is no way they will not change thos uniforms as soon as they are allowed to do so.
