OT-ish: Poorly behaved alumnus at football gate Saturday

Submitted by MottNP on October 31st, 2022 at 4:25 PM

To the alumnus who got in the face of the ticket taker/Event staff member at the main football gate on Saturday, shame on you. Getting up in their face, yelling, because YOU didn't download your ticket ahead of time, is unacceptable. Saying "I pay your salary" is laughable and disgusting, because 1. You don't likely and 2. They essentially are volunteers and 3. how disgustingly elitist.

Shame on you and your behavior. Do better.

(Mods, delete if you must, I'm just PO'd at this behavior, and my son works the gate)

It feels like you're moving into MSU "both sides" territory here.  No amount of smack justifies what went down in the tunnel.

There is one way to ensure that never happens again, and that's to deliver severe consequences to the perpetrators.  The MSU goons that committed battery thought they'd get away with it, in the tunnel away from the TV cameras.  If they - or their teammates - knew that they might not play football again for a long time, it would not have come to that.

Anyway, I don't think Corum was even mocking Tucker himself, so much as the whole "Tuck Coming" shtick.  MSU's been selling merchandise with that slogan on it all year.  It's their "Row the Boat."

Where I sit, you rarely see someone who is clearly drunk and acting like an obnoxious slob.  Saturday night, I saw several of them.  One guy commented about needing to go back to the RV to get another beer, so they’d been drinking for many hours.  That’s a concern for night games.

Is it me, or are people just more disgusting these days?

I've seen so many gross, aggressive and violent interactions lately. While anectodal, I encountered a loud disgusting group of racists at a sports bar this year - was definitely out of the ordinary.

I have my theories on what and why this shit has been unleashed in recent years but don't want to bring politics onto the board.

Perhaps social media also just makes it look worse as people are getting video'd and publicly outed all the time.

People need to chill the fuck out.

After last season’s OSU win I witnessed abhorrent behavior towards the OSU band perpetrated by M fans. Middle age men screaming “you suck” and “fuck you” into the faces of teenagers.

I didn’t need to get involved. To their great credit the OSU band maintained military-like discipline and marched away to a drumbeat. NVM that they were Buckeyes, I was proud of those kids

I just don’t get it. I am doubly nice to fans of opposing teams because I want to make a positive impression of our school.

The funny thing about the Ohio State band when they come to Michigan is that they insist on leaving immediately. They march out of the stadium as soon as they can, skipping the postgame show, because they fear for their safety or some such thing.

If you stay and play postgame, like everyone else does, you're actually going to be missing most of the people you think make you unsafe. Those folks are gone an hour after the game.

This 100%.

I don't think you have to necessarily get involved, but I don't think that a few fellow M fans telling them to chill out, or at least getting between them and the band has to be an altercation. You can separate/diffuse without without escalating. A humorous "ok guys, that's enough" from another M fan and helping them be in their way can do a lot.

Personally, I think the "don't do anything/don't get involved" thing can sometimes allow this kind of stuff to proliferate.

While walking to my car in the Crisler lot after the game I saw a hot head in a giant pickup truck scream obscenities at some other car, then wildly swerve around over a curb and almost hit a police officer and another car. Then he proceeded to yell obscenities at the police officer about some other guy blocking traffic.  The officer kept his cool but I kind of wish he would have just written him a ticket for reckless driving.  Or just being a total dick.

If you can’t control your emotions you probably shouldn’t be driving a huge vehicle in a crowded lot…. Guy easily could have hit someone including my wife and kids.

As a stadium usher, I appreciate this post.

Everyone, please remember that just about everyone working at football games, both home and away, wants you to have a good time. We take the fan experience seriously, and we often go out of our way to ensure that a good experience is had by all... so please do your part and treat all stadium staff with patience and respect, even when technology issues and/or stadium policies are frustrating you.

There's always some customers who're dicks to service staff, just like there's always some staff rude to customers. Not everyone attending a Michigan home game is by default better than the rest of society.

Some Michigan fans were pretty shitty to my Penn State friend in town for that game. Lots of really inappropriate comments and one person pulled her hair. She had a miserable experience and hates UM now.

I’ve been going to Michigan games since 1973 as a freshman. Those games were crazy, you could bring in beer, fights all over the place, puking, passing up girls, games are calm compared to those days!

Well, I certainly won't take it down, although I cannot guarantee someone else might feel differently. I do agree that these things need to be mentioned and the people who engage in such behavior shamed and chastised publicly. Hopefully, some of them even read this blog and see that they are, well, seen and unfortunately heard by others.

I didn't think it was that bad.  I recall the atmosphere was worse the last time we played moo at night.

Nebraska fans take the prize for most polite in the B1G.

Wow! I pulled the same rookie mistake and forgot my season tickets in the truck…I asked politely what to do and they told me who could help. Got it handled and was still in my seat before kickoff.

For those that have season tickets…you can access them from your MGO account. I had no idea so hope this helps others.
