Duffed in the jaw or worse, like being significantly undercut and landing on his head, unless Coach K took action. When his suspension ends, he ought to be given  one last chance and if it happens again, if Duke has any balls, he needs to be out of the program,

The kid needs to grow up or get out of college hoops.

it is somewhat of difficult balance.  I think K can be kind of a punk but I don't think he teaches this.  I think Allen has a rather significant issue with self-control.  You want to give a kid every opportunity to succeed, particularly when he doesn't have any corresponding off the court issues, at least that we are aware of.  I think he should be out 8-10 games and then be given ONE.LAST.CHANCE to not do this again and then he should be kicked off the team.

No argument here.  Coaches are in a tough spot.  If they're too quick to punish kids, then the best kids won't want to come play for them.

That's why I'm surprised highly rated recruits still play for Izzo.  He goes all Brian Kelly on them if they mess up and he doesn't really prepare them very well for the NBA either.

Back to the topic at hand - I knew the kid was going to sit a couple games with Jason Williams (from Duke) was on the post-game last night saying Coach K had to suspend this kid.  That was when Reece Davis corrected him and said - Grayson isn't a kid.  He's a junior.  He's a young man.

My problem with Coach K, in this case, is he's been an enabler for this kind of behavior.

Although I like your projection, I think he'll probably give him 3-5 games, with a longer leash than you're describing.

guess is that there will not be that much leash from from the ACC/NCAA at some point. It is a player safety issue, and if this kid cannot control himself to this degree than other players are at risk when he is the floor.

As for Coach K, I agree that this would be a good time for him to look himself in the mirror and decide what kind of coach/person he is.  If he continues to allow Allen to do this with the least possible discipline imposed each time he is doing him a disservice.  Dook is Dook, they got so much talent it is ridiculous.  They would be fine, it is Allen who has the problem, and you are right, any further enabling would be inexplicable.

Saw on a different board that Duke plays Louisville in 5 games.

I'm guessing this is a 4 game suspension.

If it does carry through the Louisville game, I'll give Coach K credit for using real discipline.

Indefinite suspension by Pope Coach K I will be the 1st half against BC.  In a group that includes Laettner, Hurley, Wojo and Redick, Allen is the biggest idiot of all.  One of the ACC teams should insert a backup LB on the roster with the sole purpose of taking that whiny little DUKE PUKE out!  Just like an NHL team calling up a goon from the IHL!

I'm not a basketball aficionado, but didn't Izzo put like 3 or 4 kids in the NBA in  the last 2 years? And didn't Trey say basically the same thing about Michigan's program not preparing him for the NBA? Also, one of the best players in the NBA is from MSU, and I don't care if people hate Draymond because of his affinity for dong related kicking, he IS one of the better players in the NBA. Not top 10, but certainly better than your run-of-the-mill role player.

has coached for Michigan State for twenty years.  His list of solid NBA contributors runs Mo Pete, J-Rich, Randolf, and Green.  I guess i will give you Charlie Bell, barely.

That is not exactly churning out top level NBA players.

That Randolph and Jason Richardson came in to school as phenomenal players. They didn't improve much while under Izzo's tutelage. The same could be said for their recent deaftees. Additionally, I believe Trey Burke was referring to life in the NBA rather than the actual play. And as someone who spent some time with Trey while he was on campus I can tell you he wasn't exactly taking things (life outside of baskeball) too seriously.

was great last year when Mike Valenti was touting Draymond Green as Finals MVP.  He then promptly got suspended for a nut kick and disappeared for the remainder of the series.

series lead snatched away from the team that has the flailing ball kicker Green on it. I was neither for nor against the Warriors until Green landed there. Now, I just prefer they are not elite. Cannot stand Green

Yeah, it kind of made me feel like he's only suspending him now because of the pressure from media / talking heads saying he needs to sit.

If Coach K felt so strongly that the kid should be suspended, why not start against a team like Elon.  Duke should be able to beat Elon using only the last 5 players on its bench.

It could just be that I think Coach K's a piece of shit and I'm wrong about his motives for suspending the kid. Lol.

think there was a time when Coach K was a genuinely good all around person and a good teacher.  However, I have never seen another Coach revered by the media to the degree he has been.  He literally can do no wrong, and I think it has ended up having a very negative effect on him as a person and coach.  He has become to worst kind of entitled, and I do think it is completely possible that some of that has worn off on his players.  It is clear, based on his reaction, that Allen is not getting the proper perspective instilled in him right now.

I remember when Dook got rolled by UNLV in the tournament.  One of my favorite games ever and probably where K learned he would have to crawl around in the mud if he wanted championships.
