That is crazy! I would still bet on them to beat Sparty in a few weeks though.
August 30th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
kind of owns ND. They even beat Notre Dame half the time during the John L. Smith era. They blew them out last year in South Bend during their 3-9 campaign. It would be both completely a Michigan State and ND thing to do for State to win that game. (probably after losing to Western)
August 30th, 2017 at 10:50 AM ^
Maybe it is because ND was in the NC a few years back, and still recruit at a higher level, but I still feel like they will win. Or maybe because it is more fun for me at this point in time to watch Sparty lose.....
August 30th, 2017 at 10:59 AM ^
my personal opinion, it appears to me that the Notre Dame players have stopped playing for Kelly. I also can't really blame them. I think they will suck until he is gone.

I hate ND more......I just can't root for them, even though I love to watch Mike D'Antoni's face as he's getting mopped off the field, I will still hope Sparty beats ND.

Why the ****stickles is this a bad sign for Notre Dame football?
August 30th, 2017 at 10:06 AM ^
I'm guessing because he couldn't get on the field for us at all and is an instant starter for ND.
August 30th, 2017 at 11:31 AM ^
There is a list of guys who "couldn't get on the field for us" who are or were playing on sundays now. It's not a huge list but, there is one. Michael Cox , Thomas rawls, Blake countess and thats all I can think of off the top of my head
August 30th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
Countess actually saw the field a lot at UM. Pretty sure he was a starter.
August 30th, 2017 at 11:46 AM ^
started 30 games at UofM. His transfer to Auburn remains a head-scratcher for me.
August 30th, 2017 at 12:41 PM ^
I thought it was because he was not comfortable in man press, as evidenced by his play against ND in 2014.
August 30th, 2017 at 1:48 PM ^
Malzahn convinced Countess that his 40 time would drop by at least 0.3 seconds if he played in the SEC, thus improving his chances at getting drafted.

Agreed. Just because he didnt play for us doesn't mean he can't play. Our coaching att he time he was here was not great. Especially at WR.
I remember watching him on film and IMO (albeit not a very well informed one) the kid can play. I wouldn't be surprised if he did well for them. He has great footwork and route running. Not the fastest or biggest guy, but if he can catch well enough he will be a good not great player for them. I hope he does well.

thomas rawls was a flash in the pan in 2015, hasn't done anything (or is always hurt) since those few games with the Seahawks

Probably because had he stayed here he wouldn't have seen much PT. He is starting at ND, so that implies their depth at WR is much worse than our depth that is filled with a crap ton of underclassmen. Therefore, ND could be in some trouble at WR.
August 30th, 2017 at 10:16 AM ^
because Equanimeous St. Brown is the other starting WR for ND and is considered to be a potential 1st round pick
August 30th, 2017 at 10:36 AM ^
That's probably just on the strength of his name. That's the most receiver-ass receiver name I've ever heard.

It's just Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Mr. Brown added the "St." to his kids' names.

...sounds kind of meh. Not really the name for a high-intensity sport like football.
The parents stepped up their game with the next two sons.

But good for Freddy Canteen though. I'm glad to see former Michigan players succeed - except if they play us of course.
August 30th, 2017 at 11:02 AM ^
Exactly. I hope he has an excellent career. Except against the good guys.

Freddy has a lot of talent, no need to take a shot at his ability.
August 30th, 2017 at 10:11 AM ^
no shot taken at Freddy. But it speaks volumes about the personnel at ND. Canteen couldn't sniff the field at UM behind a decent but not great WR corps. In a few short months he enrolls at ND and is a GAME 1 (!) starter. That does not portend well for WR talent at ND. We shall see.
August 30th, 2017 at 10:13 AM ^
Thomas Rawls?
August 30th, 2017 at 10:18 AM ^
I feel like Harbaugh would've played Rawls. I hope Freddy does well though
August 30th, 2017 at 10:26 AM ^
So, we should be worried about the depth on the Seattle Seahawks because Rawls was not getting PT at Michigan? Maybe Freddy worked hard and made himself better. He always had talent, so hopefully he has success. Even if it is at ND.
