OT: End of a dynasty

Submitted by RedRum on January 4th, 2020 at 11:17 PM

Tom Brady appears to come to an end to the hands of Tennessee. Credit a great run game wearing the defense. Tom is the only NFL player older than me. He was playing my freshman and sophomore year in college. I am sad to see him end. Every thing comes to an end. This is it. I knew it was coming but it hurts seeing come true.

Is the era over?  Or are you just pretending to act like you know Tom’s future?  Don’t worry, dozens of sports media people will have the same speculative hot take in fact form that you have here.

What game did you watch?  He is not dominate, he is a free agent, and he may not play for the patriots next season. These are all true. What am I missing vis a vis facts.
further, the first verb in my post was appears. That verb does not denote fact. Ease up, if speculation was removed from the board, it would be an empty board.

Your OP, which cannot be edited, speaks for itself. ‘Everything comes to an end. This is it.” I did not claim he was dominant - I just said you ought not to state a speculative take that this is the end of Tom Brady as if it were a fact. Other bloggers, and humans in general, agree that it is bad form to state your speculations as if they are definitively true.

Relax killer.
It’s not a stretch to say that 42 year old QB who looked average this year and just lost in the wildcard, probably isn’t going to be a favorite to win the SB next year as a 43 year old.

Anything can happen, but it’s not like the people saying the run is over for Brady are just talking shit without a whole lot of evidence to back it up.

Agreed with your logic regarding the evidence  - it is reasonable to speculate that this is the end. But speculations are still...  speculations.

Tom also just said in the post game presser that it is unlikely that he will retire. I trust him more than a special agent from Utah who spends a lot of time getting angry at people and name-calling on a blog.

Maybe, just maybe, the loss of several O-linemen to injury and the fact that Brown and Gordon didn't pan and Sony Michele seemed to look lost most of the season had something to do with Brady's play. Oh yeah, no replacement for Gronk and Harry can't figure out how to run a route.

Brady's problems may have been a severe shortage of talent on the offense.

Tom Brady will probably come back.

Also, would be a bit weird if his first pass in college was an interception and his last pass in the pros was an interception. Both returned for touchdowns. The best career ever bookended by pick sixes.

Tom won’t go out like this.

I hate to see it, but Brady just doesn’t have it in him like he did even 2-3 years ago. Granted a WAYYYY worse Peyton Manning won a title, but with this poor group of receivers I can’t see New England competing at a high level next year

Very unlikely to find a monster defense like that... except the Pats defense in 2019 which allowed the fewest yards per game, had the highest TO differential (21, 6 more than the #2 Saints), set an NFL record for fewest 3rd down conversions allowed in a season, and are the 8th team in NFL history to allow fewer than 200 points in a season.

Highly unlikely to end up in any situation like Manning did.

Tony Romo, the bumbling moron that he is, couldn’t stop with the “Could this be it????” narrative. Frankly, if the Patriots trot out the team they threw together this season, perhaps he should call it quits.

Brady can’t block for himself. Unfortunately, his line didn’t block for him very well.

Brady can’t catch his own passes. His receivers sure had a problem with that.

Brady can’t play defense and stop Henry...who bled the hell out of clock.

He threw the ball 62 yards in the air to end the half in this game. Far from a guy who has a noodle arm.

Bottom line: he’s still got it, but the Pats don’t have the supporting cast. He’ll have to decide for himself if he thinks that the Pats are going to put a team together to help him out or not.

Stop it. Brady looked plenty awful on his own today.

NE isn’t a bunch of fucking scrubs. They’ve won for years without a lot of big time weapons on offense. Not having tons of all pro bowl players never seemed to be a problem for Brady for the past 20 years.

He still has enough to be an average QB next season, but his passing was clearly not at an all pro level this year. There’s little reason to believe he’ll make a comeback at 43.

Father time beats everyone eventually.

Well this is the first time they haven't had an excellent TE and FG kicker, so if that's still the same, then I don't think they'll improve all that much from 12-4.  If Gostkowski comes back healthy and they get a reliable TE, and not the scrubs who hadn't played in years, they should be fine.

And, of course, a Buckeye was the HC of the team that seemingly has ended Brady’s run in NE.

Because, fuck.

Yeah that won't happen. Considering the Patriots have used one the biggest scams in salary cap sports with him for years by allowing him to run his business out of Foxboro and then being about to bill the team undisclosed amounts of money that don't go into the Patriots cap numbers.

If there is one thing you can count on with New England is they will try and do whatever they can to try and take advantage of any rule.

Once they cut Brown, they were toast.

They needed another receiver to keep teams from rolling coverage towards Edelman. Gronkowski was that guy forever, but with his retirement, the AB signing was their only hope to make a playoff run.

Plus, their OL is terrible.

Agreed. This season might look a lot different for NE if Brown hadn't gone completely off the map.

The NE offense was bottom 5 in the league the last 10 weeks of the season or so. An incredibly weak schedule (drew the NFC East in the other conference) and an excellent defense kept them afloat.
