OT: Dallas Stars vs. St. Louis Blues Game 7 open thread
Everyone knows the two best words in the English language are "breakfast burrito." The next two best are "Game Seven." Now add "DOUBLE OVERTIME."
Stars goalie Ben Bishop has been playing out of his mind, with 50+ saves thus far tonight. He should win the Conn Smythe just based upon his play through two rounds.
For context, STL was dead last in the NHL when 2019 started, and Stars CEO (and former Wings exec and Mike Ilitch son-in-law) Jim Lites publicly flamed his two best players, Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, as "fucking horseshit" at Christmas.
Well, look at these two teams now... Let's go!!
I hope this game never ends!
I honestly can't believe it's gotten this far after the Stars registered 4 shots on goal in the 2nd and 3rd periods combined.
3rd Game 7 OT already, no place for a nervous person!
First time in history, I believe
You are correct.
It's interesting watching without the stress of having a dog in the fight but I sure as hell can't wait for Stevie Y to get the Wings back in this thing.
Epic, congrats Blues!
What a game! I can only hope tomorrow nights Game 7 is half as good.
BTW: Little piece of trivia, the Rangers in '94 were the last team who wore a blue jersey as their dark jersey to win the Cup. Blues have a chance to end the drought!
Another piece. The Blues are the last team standing from original expansion to NEVER win a Cup. Of course the Leafs haven't won since that time either...lol
Also, really nice to see Pat Maroon, a hometown kid who took a one year discounted deal to go home, get the game winner!
Ben Bishop is a St Louis kid as well so it was home town on home town crime there.
Man Cogliano had that wide open net in the first OT that woulda sealed it.
Only 2 Michigan men left I believe.
And I think Kampfer has only played in Game 3 against Toronto so far in these playoffs.
What a game!
With the Blues advancing, I have to root for SJ tomorrow so we're guaranteed a star-crossed franchise in the SCF.
Part of me believes Jumbo Joe Thornton is destined to hoist the Cup at TD Garden and then ride off into the sunset.
I didn't have much belief that the hockey Gods wanted Thornton to win a Cup. Then the Eakin penalty on Pavelski happened and that game flipped. I really just want to see Don Cherry have to cover a home game for the "bunch of jerks" down in Raleigh.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
If the Avalanche win their game 7 I dont think there is any team that i would want to win the cup this year .
Maybe the Hurricanes would be ok .
Dont want to see Boston or the Avalanche win it thats for damn sure .
Yep all in on Canes.
Go Avs bring the cup back to Denver
15 years ago, I never thought I could root for the Avalanche. But I will be rooting for them tonight. I live here now and they're a fun team. MacKinnon is incredible.
The Avs have lost each of their last 3 Game 7s. The first of those Game 7s was 7-0 vs. the Wings in 2002.
In a way, that game makes it easier for me to root for the Avalanche now. If any Avs fans get obnoxious knowing I'm also a Wings fan, I can just bring up that game. 7-0 was an absolute exclamation point and, in retrospect, it was a finishing exclamation point, as Wings/Avs never again was as intense as it was.
Game was insane. That wrap around from Benn was so damn close, but man it just felt like the Blues were going to win with their shot dominance.
Game 7 OT is the best.
He had so much empty net to wrap that in on but he rushed it by not taking an extra half step he had the time to take and didn’t tuck it nearly enough.
NHL is a men's league.
Never in my life will I tire of seeing the Colorado Avalanche lose.
