OT: Coach Prime discusses night games

Submitted by sdogg1m on October 12th, 2023 at 4:37 PM

We are still waiting on the Michigan UFR for the offense, so in the mean time I will post the Coach Prime content for the week. I am willing to take the negs.

Deion Sanders is not a fan of late night college football games.

"Who makes these 8 o'clock games? Dumbest thing ever. Stupidest thing ever invented in life. Who wants to stay up until 8 o'clock for a darn game?" Sanders said Wednesday on "Buffs PrimeTime." "What about the East Coast -- do they even care about ratings? Is anyone watching it? What are we supposed to do with the kids all day until 8 o'clock? What are we supposed to do in the hotel?"

I agree with him. Playing so late most certainly does not benefit the student-athlete and Michigan typically plays poor in these games. I know the NCAA will never get rid of them because of money but I wish they would.

Enjoy!

I think the atmosphere is great for big games, but I would personally be supportive of a 1-per year limit for each team (1 total...not 1 home and one away).

I don’t mind watching late games but I’m not a fan of going to one. Unless of course it’s the national championship this year. Last night game I went to I didn’t feel good till Wednesday. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I’m getting to old.

He's right. I'll be pretty pissed if we're playing USC and the game doesn't start until 10pm Eastern.

Only absolute football degenerates are staying up to 2am to watch a game.

I confess as well. I don't even remember which game it was a couple three weeks ago when it finally ended, and I looked at the clock and it was around that time in the morning when, as they say, if you're at an ATM, it is not for a good reason. I'm firmly in the toe meets leather at noon department.

I like night games but there are far too many of them played now and it can be frustrating.

The biggest moment of idiocy ever in night game lore was the 2017 Michigan/Michigan State game.  Everybody waited around all day in beautiful weather to get to 8 PM when the storms were guaranteed to roll in.   (No I’m not complaining about it because Michigan lost, it was just super stupid).

I think he's 100% right, of course.  But I agree with GRBluefan, that this is one TV-driven money-grab that I must confess I enjoy as a fan.  It's nice to kick off the football weekend with a decent game to watch on Friday night.

As someone in the central time zone, I love night games.  6:30 and 7:00 pm starts are awesome.  Looks like I'm in the minority but I would prefer Michigan have 3-4 night games in their regular season schedule.  To each their own.

“i have chosen to be a college football coach and use my unique ability to draw attention to myself and my team, and then I am going to complain about how the teams with the most hype/attention play a lot of night games”
