If he wants Brady as a D-line coach and "associate Defensive Coordinator" that would be a good match for Hoke's personal velocity.
Hoke seems like a "culture" guy. He's someone you want in the cast but maybe not as a lead (unless it's a lower-tier school, where culture alone, a la P. J. Fleck, can get you some wins).

Hoke can still be successsful as a D-Line coach in a top program. He just has to get the right situation.
Trying to change Oregon's DNA as their DC was not it. Tennessee is a better fit, but that program's stability is still a concern.
I don't know what choices he had, but if he is going in as a DL coach I might have looked for a better situation than 2017 Tennessee. If he is going in as the DC, it could be a disaster.

If you can hear Gloria Gaynor, are you currently at a roller disco, out of curiosity? If so, sounds like an interesting way to spend Saturday afternoon, if nothing else.
As for Hoke, I agree with what someone else said in this thread - he's a culture guy, a position coach that helps you create an atmosphere. It seems like that's just a better role for him.

I'd rather he go somewhere we don't recruit against much. I guess UT would rank somewhere in the middle of Power 5 schools on that.

Yeah, no. Mattison is better. Hoke was very good, but I do put Mattison ahead of Hoke in that regard. Our Dline was nasty the last two years.
