OT: Brian Flores suing the NFL and alleges that Stephen Ross offered him 100,000 for every game he lost

they changed the rule this year so you need to interview 2 external minority coaches AFAIK
February 1st, 2022 at 5:12 PM ^
Good deal. Thanks for the info.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:07 PM ^
Said, "whoo boy" as soon as I read about the $100K incentive. That's pretty specific. I assume he has the receipts...I mean texts...from Belichick.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:10 PM ^
What a crazy story.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
He isn't getting an NFL job after this. We still looking?
February 1st, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
I guess he really really wanted to draft Aiden.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:26 PM ^
This was from the 2019 season.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:32 PM ^
Yea he wanted Burrow or Herbert. Had to settle for Tua.
In defense of Ross, turns out he wasn't wrong on that one. Tanking is bad for the league but for an individual team, it can work out.
February 1st, 2022 at 6:52 PM ^
Dolphins took Tua over Herbert. The Tank for Tua wasn't about settling for Tua.

I am flored to learn of this shocking news! Belichick is going to be the star witness.
The text exchange reads as follows, per the suit:
Belichick: Sounds like you have landed — congrats!!
Flores: Did you hear something I didn't hear?
Belichick: Giants?!?!?!
Flores: I interview on Thursday. I think I have a shot at it.
Belichick: Got it — I hear from Buffalo & NYG that you are their guy. Hope it works out if you want it to!!
Flores: That's definitely what I want! I hope you're right coach. Thank you. ... Coach, are you talking to Brian Flores or Brian Daboll. Just making sure.
Belichick: Sorry — I f***ed up . I double checked & I misread the text. I think they are naming Daboll. I'm sorry about that. BB
Flores: Thanks Bill.

Funny comment from the twitters. Belichick is playing 4D chess to get back at the NFL for deflate gate.
February 1st, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
I love the idea that Belichick did this on purpose to mess with the NFL. How Machiavellian would that be? Revenge is a dish best served cold indeed.
February 1st, 2022 at 6:21 PM ^
BB is a douche. This is laughable
February 1st, 2022 at 5:22 PM ^
Looks like Stephen is about to have a lot more time on his hands to support UM football.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:22 PM ^
Why would Ross care so much about his team losing? Is he trying to help eagles get a better pick? Dolphins traded their 1st rounder to the Eagles.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:27 PM ^
From the 2019 season.

That 7 game win streak? It was a lucky shot...

I had a chat several years ago with a former coach at M whose name I shall leave unmentioned but maybe "Anthony Thomas but tough" would give some a clue. He talked about the numerous times he was interviewed in a very token manner for college HC. He understood the situation and wasn't bitter about it, just sad about the reality.
But no one seems to have a viable fix for the NCAA or NFL.

Ty Wheatley was the fuckin’ man
February 1st, 2022 at 6:40 PM ^
Seeing some tweets that there are some other coaches who have similar stories that may be able to join as parties.
Tricky situation: You're required to interview candidates. Nobody can control how seriously you take the interview. You can't just legislate a quota to fix the issue.
I mean, everyone basically knew a lot of these interviews were just fulfilling requirements, right? Sometimes you might get surprised, but usually you weren't.
And, FWIW, the stuff about Ross sounds bad and it's evidence, but it sounds like what Ross is being accused of is a bit different; contrast with the Giants and the Broncos, who gave Flores interviews with what he alleges is zero intent to consider him for the job.

Yost racist
Fab Five bribe

What story against UMich athletics will emerge tomorrow?
Yet, likely another 80,000+ high schoolers across the globe will apply to attend and cry in joy when they get accepted into the best university in the world.
Go Blue.

Shouldn’t have been fired.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
The NFL will presumably circle the wagons as a result of this and never hire Flores again but also pay him millions of dollars in a settlement because of that.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:46 PM ^
This shit rules. Fuck the NFL.
February 1st, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
Belichick didn't text the wrong person, he misread who they were hiring.
February 1st, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
Seems unlikely since he says he’s hearing from Buffalo and Giants. Only one of the Brians worked for Buffalo.
February 1st, 2022 at 6:10 PM ^
Him being fired is a head scratcher. He was a winner in Miami.
February 1st, 2022 at 6:12 PM ^
I really liked Marcus Spears' take on this: http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=33194909
I hope Flores gets hired. And I hope he wins this lawsuit (a settlement could be a win).
I'm not ready to vilify Ross, the Giants, or the Broncos in particular, but it's clear that NFL Owners--mostly rich white dudes--are much more comfortable hiring white dudes than Blacks (or other people of color).
It's past time for that to change.
February 1st, 2022 at 6:17 PM ^
The fact that the Rooney rule is even a rule is sad in itself.
February 1st, 2022 at 6:16 PM ^
I assume Flores is being blackballed by the NFL owners, which is why he hasnt been linked to any other jobs. Id 100% take him as the next UM coach but Im sure Ross makes the call in that situation
February 1st, 2022 at 6:24 PM ^
How do the NFL teams with remaining openings hire a white head coach? Does that mean Harbaugh crawls back?
February 1st, 2022 at 6:23 PM ^
Michigan should hire him. Leaders and Best
February 1st, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
It's going to be super awkward for Warde to call Ross asking for $$ for Flores' contract
February 1st, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
Fucking Steven Ross. He got super rich doing one thing, and so now he does another thing, a thing that he’s completely terrible at. Didn’t he also piss away money in the Madof scheme?
February 1st, 2022 at 9:35 PM ^
Pretty sure that was Fred Wilpon, different alum...
February 1st, 2022 at 9:18 PM ^
Not weighing in on right/wrong or what the facts are because I have no idea in this case. But, I've always found it weird how integrated (Black and White) the player population is and how nearly homogeneously White the HC/GM class is in football.
Also, just an observation but the timing of these allegations is kicking off right alongside Black History Month. It would be a big story anyway, but this will put it even more into the spotlight.
