Supposedly, a huge host of players, most of who transferred in this past season or for the upcoming one, are expected to enter the portal. Any coaching change activates a 30-day transfer window.

Hey, if Michigan’s Midland county sheriff can get a DUI while super drunk and not resign, it really shows that college hoops coaches are held to a higher ethical standard than LE in this country. Murica!

Also the sheriff of St. Joseph county just this spring, had a bac of .252 and crashed into another car causing them to rollover, thankfully the couple inside was uninjured. He was driving a county car with a couple of firearms inside too. Got sentenced to just a year of probation plus fines, and kept his job.

That's rough.

Based on his age, appearance, and lifestyle (EtOH consumption, probably long hours for many years with some stress), it seems easy to conclude that he is (as of a few days ago, anyway) a high-functioning alcoholic and somewhat lucky to be alive. How many years would a medical actuary have given him at 60?

Regarding the odds of him "getting help" and "turning it around," I wish him the best but consider both unlikely. Like many of you, probably, I'm old enough to have seen some extended family members and acquaintances drink themselves to death. Failures have greatly outnumbered successes.

Hard to see this, hope he gets some help. Always liked Huggins as a coach, but glad he's stepping down to focus on what's clearly more important.

Dude's likely been what you call a 'lush' for most of his adult life. Probably just got lucky to not get caught more. Who knows how many officers gave him 'courtesy' due to him being a prominent basketball coach at the big local college over the years.

Chances of him ever changing at this point are probably close to zero.

Huggins has an inserted defibrillator (like Bo had in his final months) that was activated during a game in February of 2017 after he became lightheaded on the sideline.

He experienced a major heart attack in 2002 and only survived due to being close to a hospital with a well recognized cardiac care program.

His departure from coaching is long overdue and is necessary for a million different reasons.

In the medical and psychiatric worlds alcoholism is thought to be a disease. Coach Huggins is lucky to still be alive. Hopefully he can rehabilitate himself and live out the remainder of his life more successfully and identify more important priorities.
