OT: Biggest Jackass in pro sports

Submitted by Eli on April 28th, 2019 at 9:35 AM

While watching the NHL Playoffs I can’t help but think Brad Marchand is a huge Jackass. Game to game his antics are pretty ridiculous. In game 1 against CBJ he stepped on a guys stick to break it during a face off, this is small compared to his constant shit talking and the cool time he licked a dudes face. This made me think about others who have earned Jackass status over the years. Rick Fox of the Lakers has to be up there. I remember him nut checking guys and sticking his fingers in places they don’t belong just to annoy people. Robin Ventura of the Chicago White Sox could be on this list as well. Who would you add and why?

I’ll throw out some older names.

Christian Laettner - how we got this far without him being named tells me I’m old.

Andre Waters - at one time was the dirtiest player in the NFL. Went after guys knees constantly and bitched about every call against him. I’m glad he got what was coming to him and I don’t wish injury on anybody typically.

Will Clark was supposed to be a really big jerk, so much so his own teammates didn’t like him.

Amazingly I had once read Wade Boggs apparently was a giant ass.

Tiger is very competitive so people think he is a jerk (the personal stuff is a whole different category), but if you want a real jackass in golf look no further than Fuzzy Zealor. Not even the tight fraternity of golfers would cover for his racist ass.

Dave Gettleman, because he is the worst fucking g.m. in football. He couldn't do a better job of destroying the Giants if he was deliberately trying to do so. A close second: James Dolan. Fuck you, Dolan. FUCK YOU!

Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio.

Players?  Claude Lemieux back in the day, Scott Stevens as well.  Could never stand Kobe Bryant, Ray Lewis, Phil Rivers, whichever Patriot was most vocally riding the coattails of Tom Brady and Bellicheck.

Scott Stevens is one of the most overrated players in sports history. He made dirty hits. That’s about it. And they were dirty. Intending to injure, late, aiming for the head, sometimes leaves his feet. Checks all the boxes. He had no offensive ability and wasn’t an actual shut down defenseman. Just a hitter and captain of a championship team. I have the same problem with chara. If chara is 6’6, he doesn’t make the NHL. He is below average in every aspect of the game, but he gets away with it because of the size. He’s extremely effective but he shouldn’t have a Norris and he shouldn’t get into the hall of fame. Other players that are actually good at the game and have above average abilities are more deserving than someone who’s only asset is that they are tall.

Good question.  But why ask?

Does ANYONE hang out with Tier 1 personalities?  In business, government or in sports?  Regularly?

I’m sure someone on MGoBlog does. %’s are in favor someone does.  And I’m sure that person - regardless of who - is a-ok.

Seriously. Has anyone met someone  who someone on this board called an ass?  Meyer?  Pete Carroll?

I get your point but I do think folks are looking beyond the surface level "man, that person comes across as a jackass, on a frequent basis" and looking at their overall character.

A few examples - Bill Belichick and Nick Saban tend to come across as jackasses, however you can't hardly find anyone who says that they are of low character.

On the other hand, having been in the Grand Rapids area for the past 30 years, I know many people who have known and worked with Brian Kelly and I've yet to find one who has anything good to say about him other than that he's a good coach.

A final note - I can't stand Mark Dantonio, mostly because of his lame woe-is-me, chip on the shoulder, no one respects us nonsense, but also because I don't think he is all that above board, integrity wise (also don't think he's the worst of them).  My wife REALLY can't stand him.  Dantonio came to the first Mike Sadler celebration of life in 2017, here at Founders in Grand Rapids, mingled with everyone and took many pictures with folks.  This was a class act on his part and I somehow convinced my wife to have her picture taken with him (several beers may have helped).

Ok, one more note - Connor Cook had tweeted that he would be at the 2nd annual Mike Sadler celebration of life in 2018.  His parents were there.  He never showed up.

All of that may be taking this way too seriously ...

I'll never forget when i was a kid, I was a ball boy for the Detroit Express .. and the player Daniel Mammana, on a corner kick, while jockeying for position prior to kick,  saw him grab the opposing players by the balls, from behind, and massaging thr players ass too,  no joke...I guess without video replay back then, he was trying to irk the player... Or was a fag ...

Bruce Bowen is another.  Stepping under guys when they're shooting is dirty as fuck.  Guys can flop all they want (it's still a bitch move) but what Bowen was doing was about as low as it gets.

Forgot to mention:

Kyle Farnsworth - even though he was a Tiger, I couldn't stand him when he was on the Cubs.

John Rocker - that one is way too easy.

Must be something about relievers.
