I thought you were going to complain about the series. I've been keeping up, but totally agree - very slow. Without the breaking bad background I'd be gone by now...

Guess I need to check the DVR tomorrow!

It was great, but it makes me wonder how well the title is going to fit the show. I'm betting there will basically be two lead actors for the rest of the series.

tonights show was very well done. Mike is a good character amd theyve endeared us well to him. But i dont think its only two main characters. There will be others, notably a young walter white and jessie will show too.

Agree.

I never actually watched the last season of Breaking Bad, and thought it was a very tired concept by the time I was stopped watching it.

Better Call Saul is much better, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode. Saul was my favorite Breaking Bad character anyways, so it makes more sense.

I was worried that this spin off wouldn't be interesting or exciting ( being about a lawyer). But, I have liked it right from the start. You have to understand that they would need to take some time to build a story line and develope characters. Tonight was great, and helped to explain Mike's background. Can't wait to see how he gets hooked up with Gus.

But totally disagree that the series has been slow. In fact I'd argue it started out "faster" than BB.

BCS has been first rate and gaining steam. Walking Dead is getting worse though.

Line of the night for me was the Corleonesque "I know it was you" while 38 special was playing ( murder weapon listed in the spiral book).

I hadn't thought of it in that context until you mentioned it just now, and I definitely agree.

Mike did have an awesome (and very typical Mike) set of last words in that scene though; "shut the fuck up and let me die in peace" definitely suits him and there are a lot worse places than that riverbank to die.

I haven't watched any part of either show so I can't relate what I heard with what I would have watched. I still listened to the program today because I like Fresh Air. I brought it up because I wanted fans of the shows to talk about the interview to put what I heard today into a better context, if it was a cool interview or not. As a 12 hour later recap, they brought up that exact scene and how it was a rushed shot because of the lighting so concentrating was hard, and it was hard to act out his last scenes as that character as an actor. I definitely didn't listen as close as a close follower of the tv show, sorry I can't offer more. But was hoping someone else could.

Was all about BCS and BB today. I am not a tv watcher, so I had no vested interest in the topics. But just throwing that out there if anyone who likes this topic listened and liked the interview. Go blue!

Can't wait till Chuko comes back. First couple episodes when he lived with his abuelita he was not called Chuko for some reason.
Definitely agree with the OP there was a slow start until tonight.

Excellent episode.  Jonathan Banks cried the day they shot the scene to kill Mike off.  Its so great that the character is being revealed right now.

GodFather II and I references tonight.  The line...from GFII and the hidden gak from GFI.

Great episode. I wasn't expecting much after the first two episodes, but the last two have been really well done. Tonight's episode was amazing and totally puts Mike's character in perspective. I really hope at some point we get to see Walter White and Jessie again. I wouldn't care if it is just a single episode, or several, just bring everyone back.

I thought the series started off well.  The opening scenes with a very lonely, very despondent Saul working as a manager of a Cinnabon set the mood ... the ultimate fall; the lowest of lows.

All drama is ultimately about fall and redemption ... or in Saul's case, fall (early life as "Slipppin' Jimmy"), redemption (success as lawyer), then fall again (getting mixed up with Walter White).  The first few episodes have established the foundation for his redemption story.

Great stuff.  And I assert again that the lighting of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is what sets the show apart visually.  They do remarkable things using the contrast between light and shadows to set scenes.  Breathtaking cinematography.

Best on TV in my opinion. The lighting as you say sets it apart. The use of light and dark on the characters faces as they struggle with being good/bad and the use of color filters is fascinating. The train pulling in scene in the first minute sets the tone with telling camera angles and lighting.
To me BCS is not trying to be the sequel to BB. It's more like Coen brothers comedy than the ultra dark BB. Frazier didn't try to be Cheers and was excellent in its own way. BCS is excellent in its own way it , but definitely has wonderful writing and cinematography that made BB a classic.

Would definitely be in my top 5, but not as subtle. I think you really have to be a BB/BCS geek to like some of the foreshadowing/feeling conveyed by the cinematography. Interesting comparisons though.

Other great cinematography series somewhwere on my list: Mad Men, House of Cards, The Wire, Sopranos, and more old school Downton Abbey. I am rewatching the entire DA series and the second time can really appreciate the good cinematography. Like a good book, it can be enjoyable to see different things a second time around with different perspective. Never had the patience to do this when I was younger.

AMC knows how to make shows . I may be in the Minority here but I think Halt and Catch Fire is a top notch show and I'm glad it got renewed from the start .

Even though I am not a huge fan of really anything on AMC, I do enjoy a few shows on that channel and they are very consistent in their quality.  Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Mad Men, BCS, are all very well done and to an extent I like those shows, but I don't fawn over them or love them.  They are just solid shows.  The network in general is very consistent.

Jonathon Banks is really a great actor. His non-verbal communication tells a lot of stories. I'm enjoying his work. That said, I'm still not 100% sold on Better Call Saul. I'm anxious to see where it goes from here, following last night's episode.
