OT - Beniers to all star game

In happier news, Matty Beniers continues to tear it up for the Kraken, with 13 goals, 28 points, 70 shots on net, 50 hits and a plus-5 rating through 37 contests.  Rookie of the Year certainly a possibility!!

I was at the Kraken community iceplex the other day — my girls are taking hockey classes there — and a woman who worked there asked me if I’m Beniers father, because apparently Bemiers and I look alike. This made me feel 1) kinda cool and 2) a lot old.

Kraken season ticket holder here...

As excellent as Matty's numbers are, they don't tell the full story of his impact.  He's already the star of the team - a fan favorite who gets the biggest cheers.  As a 20-yr old, he plays a complete 200-ft game at the NHL level, against grown-ass men.  Excellent defensively and is always buzzing around the puck.  He's a major catalyst for Seattle's offensive turnaround this season.  The Kraken wouldn't be pushing for a playoff spot without him.

I'd be shocked if he isn't named captain in the next year or so.

Don't forget Dylan Larkin, also an all-star, also a UM alum. #LGRW

I haven't had a chance to look at the NHL voting site for the 12 additional choices... any other UM alums up for voting? (Beniers and Larkin were chosen by the league as non-fan-voting all-stars, 1 per team)

Matty was one of my favorites at Yost. Can't wait to see gold medalist Fantilli along with Captain America, Luke Hughes, Duke, McGroarty, Brindley and Casey back in action against the wide left Buckeyes. Great to see the young talent before they head off to the NHL. We are definitely spoiled.
