OT: Alex Anzalone flips to Florida
This has been a really strange recruitment. Alex Anzalone flipped to Florida today and will enroll early, apparently due to Brian Kelly interviewing with the Eagles.

I almost feel bad for the kid.

It's hard to feel bad for a kid who is going to get a scholly to play at a school where the co-eds have long had a reputation as some of the most gorgeous and available at any college in the US.
I know this is really selfish, but I am sorta hoping for Kelly's NFL dalliance to cause a meltdown at ND. Maybe Anzalone is the first of many who will revisit their decisions before NSD.

One of the shittiest weeks for Notre Dame in a while continues. I am enjoying it.

I'm not sure Florida, even with their coach in place, is a better spot right now compared to ND.

Muschamp vs Diaco. It's a tie, really.

When I read his last name quickly, the first thing I cognitively put together is, "Anal-zone". Regardless, love this ND shadenfreud.
January 10th, 2013 at 4:46 PM ^
I feel bad for the running backs who have to run through the anal-zone to get to the end zone.

Is the anal-zone anything like the dong forest?
January 10th, 2013 at 6:02 PM ^
Yes, all you have to do is run through it backwards...

Do not want to see your browser history.

EVERY time I see his last name, It appears in my head as, "Anal-Zone" and I can hear the song, "Highway to the Anal-Zone" (by Kenny Loggins) playing in the background.

Brian Kelly interviews for another job, leaves the country on a vacation and his players wake up to him possibly leaving ND. I wouldn't doubt it if a couple other recruits do the same thing.

is it still the dead period? why would coach who is staying at a school leave for vacation 1 month before signing day? he's gotta be gone because if he was invested in ND he would be on the road still working on this class
January 10th, 2013 at 7:09 PM ^
I'm pretty sure the dead period was back in December and things have heated up again. Why Kelly would go on vacation now, I have no idea.

Jaylon Smith come on down.
January 10th, 2013 at 4:56 PM ^
Was he (Jaylon Smith) even considering Michigan???

His little brother might be the best of them all. Wonder what side of the family rivalry he will end up choosing one day.

I'm not sure that this had a whole lot to do with Kelly interviewing with the Eagles. I think it was Mike Farrell about a month or two ago, who said he would be shocked if Anzalone didn't end up flipping to Florida. It sounds like this was months in the making.
January 10th, 2013 at 4:57 PM ^
I also heard that his dad wanted him to go to Florida.

Come on, Jaylon Smith!!!
edit: Meant to be a response to TNWolverine

Glad we didn't go too hard after this kid, first of all.
Second, we better pray Jaylon Smith stays with ND...otherwise, his #2 is OSU.

Mr. Smith meet Coach Mattison. BOOYAA!
January 10th, 2013 at 4:56 PM ^
Wasn't there some rumor about this happening back in November right after he committed to ND?

According to a Rivals article from late October, he actually had filled out the early enrollment paperwork at Florida once before, so he was almost gone from ND previously already. After this, of course, as Alligator Army notes, he subsequently reaffirmed his commitment to ND, and now this, of course. Very odd recruitment indeed.

I dont remember where I read this, but Michigan turned Anzalone down for a visit. We were full at LB and were only willing to take Levenberry. Thank goodness. He sure Jordan Payton'ed OSU, and ND.
January 10th, 2013 at 5:28 PM ^
You probably read it here, but I don't know what other sites you visit.
I liked Anzalone's film at all and wish we'd taken a longer look at him, especially considering we seem to be fishing for another LB now. But oh well, as you said, it might've not been worth the time and hassle as he seems to have had something of a dramatic recruiting process (from the outside).
January 10th, 2013 at 5:00 PM ^
His dad and mom both graduated from Florida IIRC, so it's not a total surprise he would wind up there.
