Ohio State is projected to have a relatively small class next year: 6 departing seniors, and 32 draft-eligible underclassmen. Realistically the 2017 class will only be about 18-20 players at most.

Along with Todd Sibley, OSU also has a committment from 4* RB J.K. Dobbins and are heavily recruiting both 5* RB Najee Harris and Cam Akers. As a result, Sibley was asked to grayshirt back in March and wait to enroll in January 2018 instead of June 2017. Looks like Sibley weighed his options and decided it was better to flip to Pitt/Narduzzi vs. postponing his college career.

Not a little of both at all. Ohio State did nothing wrong but they still pushed the kid out. His dream was to be a buckeye. Unfortunately for him they're recruiting at historic levels and he's not quite good enough.

I guess I don't think Sibley was completely pushed out because he was still being offered a spot on the team. Yes, the spot wasn't going to open up until after the 2017 season in January 2018, but how much would that have mattered in the long run?

The current frontrunners to take over for Ezekiel Elliott are RsSr. Bri'onte Dunn, and RsFr. Mike Weber with true Fr. Antonio Williams patiently waiting behind them. The chances of Sibley starting or playing significant minutes in the 2017 season as a true freshman with RsSo. Weber and So./RsFr. Williams in front of him are going to be slim. IMO, there was a high likelihood that Sibley would have redshirted his 1st season anyways.

To be fair, OSU fans always rationalized this type of recruting under Meyer. They piled on Harbaugh/Michigan last year because for years Michigan fans looked down on OSU for this recruting style, and then all had to wipe egg off their faces when their own coach decided to big boy recruit too.

Sibley was asked to gray shirt. OSU has an extremely, extremely highly rated class, and quite a few top 100 guys who want to buy in. One of their problems is they don't have a big class, and they're struggling to fit everyone in who wants to be there. So Sibley was asked to postpone his scholarship a bit. At least Meyer gave him lots of notice . . . it was easy for Sibley to land somewhere else.

Todd Sibley was asked to greyshirt back in March/April 2016, and has visited multiple schools since then, which why I think Sibley is leaving on such good terms. Ohio State's coaching staff has helped Sibley in re-opening his recruitment, and assured him that he could still enroll at Ohio State in January 2018 if Sibley didn't find another interested school.

I think he was just making a joke.

Despite the fairy tale that the writer wrote about that one kid that Michigan "pulled the rug from under" - the kid was told long before that he needed to meet certain criteria and the kid refused to comply with them.

This won't be a big deal, because it isn't one.   Neither was the other one unless you believe a one-sided narrative.

There is nothing more I can say at this point.

Edit: Other than Ohio State can kiss my sweet ass.

Wow. Urban can push a local 4* recruit out of the class and be praised for handling it with class.

Sibley probably grew up a Buckeye fan and had dreams of playing there. To have it come to fruition and then have it taken away had to be devastating.  The way everything was handled says more about the recruit than it does the OSU staff.

can be handled with class, maturity and is enacted with an appropriate time frame by all parties involved. Sibley's twitter testimonial says it all.

They must be in on some serious 5 star RB talent if a 4 star OH kid is leaving their ranks.

Guess that's what happens when you can boast a track record of Carlos Hyde and Ezekiel Elliott.
