OT: 30 for 30 The U Part 2

Submitted by OccaM on

The 30 for 30 series is amazing in my opinion. The U Part 1 was one of the better ones.

The sequel should be entertaining as well as it covers the 00-03 Canes I believe. Those teams were stacked with NFL talent.

9:00 ESPN. It should be a very entertaining watch.

I liked it when they replayed the original, which is now sorta "Part 1."  It goes to show that a floundering program can be taken to a National Championship in five years if it is done right.  The whole thing about "recruiting the State of Miami" was brilliant.  I know Michigan doesn't have anything close to the treasure trove of talent within 150 miles that Miami has, but it is still possible to build a great team.

Judging from the history of the NFL draft on its website

Miami had 31 NFL draft picks from 00-03

Michigan had 21 in the same time frame.

For reference, Michigan had 23 from 04-08 and 12 from 96-99...

That just puts it into perspective how much talent those Miami teams had lol.

The top six years, Miami and USC went on NCAA sanctions, not every year, but what they got caught for probably went on for awhile.  Alabama in 2010, probably should have with the "bag man".

OSU in 2005. Same thing, whatever they were doing in 2005 they were doing whent he NCAA came a calling.

Honestly, Notre Dame and Penn State (forgetting sandusky issues) were probably the only programs that were fairly clean on that list. In my opinion.

I agree I love the 30 for 30 series - especially The U part 1.  Curently, watching part 2.  Man I forgot just how good some of thoe U teams were in 80s and then again in 00's.

And to be honest, I loved that U swagger.  The fog running out on the field, the sack dances, etc...  They had this mental edge - I kind of hope they get back to that so they run the state of FLA again.

NOTE: Also, forgot to mention if you like 30 for 30, Netlix has most if not all of them.  Even the recent Rand University just showed within the last week or two.

Their confidence was so entertaining! I loooved the way they played so violently. They had so many studs that werent even really mentioned. Johnson, obviously (lions could have had instead of Charles rogers), Portis (lions could have drafted instead of kalimba edwards), Vilma, taylor, Reed is my favorite safety and one of my favorite football players ever.

Those 2000-2002 teams would have dominated any era.

The weird thing is, I despise cockiness and insist on doing things the right way, but for some reason I still love me some Canes!

CC: Coker ? HA!

Edgerrin James, followed by Najeh Davenport, followed by Clinton Portis, followed by Willis McGahee, followed by Frank Gore. Unbelievable string of running backs.

Ed Reed freaking out and crying that they're not winning by enough during half time omg.... hahahahaha

Ed Reed was the Head Coach. Coker was just there for handshakes.

If not, its definitely in that Top 5 conversation.  That team was beyond stacked.  I think as they stated - some of their bench players were insane college players when they got their turn.  They had studs at every position - RB, WR, TE, DL, LB, DB.  The weak spot was probably Ken Dorsey, and he was a pretty damn good college QB.

Coker is the definition of riding the coattails of another successful coach. Dude couldn't maintain the success or keep order without the older players like Reed et al who graduated.
