OSU Returns 7,000 Unsold Tickets to Rose Bowl

Submitted by Communist Football on December 26th, 2021 at 1:20 PM

The wheels are (at least for this year) coming off the Buckeye bandwagon

Ohio State football sold just more than two thirds of its allotment of tickets for the Rose Bowl Game as the Buckeyes prepare to face Utah on New Year's Day, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Associate athletic director for ticketing and premium seating Brett Scarbrough told the outlet Ohio State returned the remainder of its 20,000 ticket allotment — approximately 7,000 tickets — to the bowl game, according to the report.

It would be good to see less scarlet at Michigan Stadium, too, as they get more accustomed to losing.

Absolutely.

And the best part, under-achieving (for the ultimate goal) over the past 2 decades given the talent they brought in and the relative ease they’ve dominated the conference.

They could easily have 5 national titles over the past 2 decades, but despite being a Death Star they have just 2.

Glorious that they’ve come up short of the ultimate goal when the stakes were at their highest.

Beating them this year was incredible, but also glad they haven’t achieved at the level of Bama over the past 2 decades given the talent they’ve brought in and opportunities they’ve had.

They actually take pride in that.  Of course, they don't view it as being spoiled.  Instead, they view it as having higher standards and being unwilling to settle for less.  They take immense self-satisfaction from that.  Along with it comes delusional, hypocritical, solipsism, but what can one expect from cooler poopers who lack critical thinking skills.

Who wants to spend the time and money to fly all the way out to the west coast to watch your glamour team get their asses kicked in by a less high profile hard core blue dollar team.

Softness is their new reality.

there is a significant non-zero possibility that utah beats ohio.  and if that happens, ohio ending the season with a 2 game losing streak, i would take entirely too much pleasure in the meltdown of the most spoiled and ill-behaved (making allowance for our regular ohio posters who seem like genuinely good dudes) fan base on the planet.   day's seat would go from simmer to at least medium warm despite their other-worldly recruiting. the talent gap between ohio and utah might be as much as between utah and a middling fcs team.  we're all going to be utes on new year's day.

could happen.  not betting the farm on it, but it could definitely happen.   day knows this and will have cattle prods on his soft superstars, but it could happen.  here's to the ghost of Christmas future...

If Ohio St loses .. in the past 14 games they would be

10-4 overall

4-3 outside the state of Ohio

Lost its last BIG10 game

Lost its last game vs Michigan

Lost its last 2 road games

Lost its last 2 bowl games

0-3 on road vs top 10

1-4 overall vs top 10

With the "best roster Ohio St has ever had ,by recruit ranks" according to 247

of course you know i hope you're right but i also think day will realize how miserable the next 9 months will be if you all lose on 1/1.   he's not taking any chances and i have a feeling you all will cover the spread in multiples, ala what you did to sparty.  who is sitting out for the bucks, and what is your candid take on how the bowl game might play out?

incidentally, you are exactly one of the guys i was referring to as being a good dude - you know that already.

Honestly, I don't think the result of the bowl game has much of a bearing on the next 9 months. This is an exhibition game with minimal consequence.

Wilson & Olave have both opted out, as have Garrett (DL) and "Little Brother" (OL).

Utah (the team, the fans, the program/community as a whole) is ecstatic to be playing in this game. OSU will not match their intensity.

As was addressed in comments immediately below, Utah is going to punch Ohio State in the face, and I'm not sure if OSU's front 7 is capable of punching back. I'm hoping the O-line is. Maybe?

i did see the announcement about those guys sitting out.  i guess its not surprising for any big time program these days but still bums my hide.

trying to be objective, and having played a boatload of football and having two (at least, more could follow) college football playing sons i'll just say that i'd be very surprised if you guys didn't make a statement on 1/1.  i can see a lot of places where your coaches could get in guys' grills and rightfully shame them for their effort on 11/27 and say 'look, you leave it all out there on the field in pasadena, beating a team of glorified 2 and 3* players, or you're not the buckeyes we thought you were'.  you all have talent beyond literally any other program and in the warm temps of socal i think as i've said before that you guys do to utah what you did to sparty.

and as to day's next 9 months, i've stopped by the 11w site recently.  my prediction is that in the unlikely event of a loss on 1/1 the temperature of that place is going to be very hot.  google tells me you guys are 7 pt favorites.

I'd say 30-40% assuming both teams come out focused. Utah runs well but doesn't have the explosiveness that Michigan does. They have a good pass rush, but overall their defense is probably a bit weaker than Michigan's.

If OSU comes out flat, Utah will pave them and probably get to Stroud enough to throw off the OSU offense at least as much as PSU, Nebraska, and Michigan did.

I’ve watched this OSU team all year and while this team is not perfect, I would not be dismissive of their talent or bet against them against Utah.  This game is a good test of Days coaching staff.  Can they get over the Michigan loss?  Is Day as good as Meyer at the end  of the season? Meyers teams really did get better with every additional week of practice.
