Official Visitors this weekend

I've been hearing this is a YUGE recruiting weekend.  I figured I'd throw them in here.  Most of my info came from Magnus' site, so here is a link.  There's more detail there.

2017 Recruits

5* OT - Alex Leatherwood (#5 composite)

5* LB - Baron Browning (#9 composite)

5* CB - Shaun Wade (#18 composite)

4* OL - Jedrick Wills (#43 composite)

4* C - Cesar Ruiz (#66 composite)

4* OT - Chuck Filagia (#112 composite)

4* LB - Jordan Anthony (#115 composite)

4* CB - Christopher Henderson, Jr (#156 composite)

4* S - Markquese Bell (#179 composite)

4* DT - Donovan Jeter (#276 composite)

4* RB - Chase Hayden (#312 composite)

4* LB - KJ Britt (#317 composite)

3* LB - Shanon Reid (#408 composite)

3* S - Brelin Faison-Walden (#442 composite)

I'll update with other classes when I'm free.  Looks like it will be a big weekend.  A win will probably go a long ways with some really, really good recruits...

247 analysts are putting in crystal balls for Shannon Reid to the good guys.

247 is higher than other services on Reid. Will probably make the recruiting roundup but thought it was interesting.

I don't necessarily think there *will* be any commitments, but I would keep an eye on Jordan Anthony and Shanon Reid as potential commitments. Most of the other guys are leaning elsewhere, longshots, or have insisted that they're going to wait and take more visits. Markquese Bell is a guy who I think we have a really good shot with, but he's said that he wants to take more visits.

What is notable is that very few of our recruits are from Ohio anymore.  Obviously we remain focussed on Michigan, but we seem to be shifting our attention elsewhere. Purposeful or is this year a fluke?

Ohio doesn't produce as many high level recruits as it once did, so if you want to build a national championship caliber roster, you need to look elsewhere for talent. Look at OSU's 2017 class. Of their 17 commits, just 4 are from Ohio. Only 7 are from the Midwest/Northeast.

FWIW, I'm not sure on Jeter. He said a couple weeks ago that he would visit Michigan this coming weekend, but then he committed to Notre Dame. Despite Notre Dame being 1-3 and losing to Duke, I'm not sure if he's still keeping an open mind or not.

It may be a YUGE recruiting weekend but Harbaugh is going to need stamina to close on these recruits. And thank god he's traveled to 29 satellite camps and negotiated a Nike deal including Jordan Jumpman, twittered a cease fire with the SEC coaches, negotiated a release of NCAA satellite camps, opened of new opportunities for kids at states around the country, and has even spent hundreds of hours getting grilled in front of the media.

FYI, I'm pretty sure Sam Webb snuck in an offhand "gut feeling" call on Singleton committing to Michigan. It was very very sneaky, but it's in the recruiting roundup from today. His comment was something like...

"I fully expect this to end up like a Rashan Gary deal with Clemson, but my gut tells me that he will be signing with the good guys at the end of the day."  I'm mostly paraphrasing there, but he snuck that in with the rundown of the visitor list for this weekend.

If one was to overanalyze this, he may be saying that Singleton silently committed to Michigan already. Or he may be saying that it's possible he announces his commitment at the game with his "at the end of the day" comment. Or he may have just been told by Drew's father enough that he's coming to Michigan that his gut is full. OR he may have accidentally brought out the gut.

My bet is on either option #1 or #3. Sam would have corrected himself otherwise. And more often than not he will specifically say "this is not a gut feeling" if it wasn't, so yeah... Option #1 or #3. Sounds like we can expect his committment "at the end of the day," whatever that means (likely signing day).

Ugh.  Models have an ugly-looking cut-off upper low forming that will draw in moisture from the Atlantic and make things pretty miserable for awhile.  The departure of these things is notoriously difficult to time but unfortunately they tend to stick around longer than expected.  As of now it arrives tomorrow doesn't start to lift away until Saturday night.

Don't count on parking at the golf course this weekend, that's for sure.

Probably a dumb question, but can you have too many big visitors in one weekend? We know kids like personal attention. With all these highly ranked athlete being shown the red carpet treatment everywhere else, having to share time with so many others may leave them feeling overlooked.
How much time can the coaches have with each kid with that many kids in town, on a day when there's a big 3:30 home game?
Just asking because I have no idea if that's an issue.

I have wondered the same thing, as well. Something to keep in mind is that at any real powerhouse there are going to be several top recruits visiting for any meaningful game. They are going to compete for the coachs' attention anywhere if it's a big game which most top recruits tend to go to. If Harbaugh and Co. manage the situation well, which we have to assume they will, this won't be a problem.
