I don't know people are so into the "coach in waiting" thing. I'd rather have promising assistants gain head coaching experience elsewhere and then potentially come back, like Mel in hockey. LaVall Jordan could be that guy for us.

Here's a nice quote about Donlon's relationship with Beilein. In the Detroit News article, Donlon says there were only two reasons he would have even considered leaving Michigan:  a head coach position, and going home to Chicago. I hadn't realized Donlon was divorced, and his daughter Maren now lives in North Carolina, presumably with her mom.

She called to tell her Mom, "Dad made the right choice." "She loved the Beileins. She cried when she realized she won't see the Beileins on every trip. I love the Beileins," said Donlon, whose coaching career also has included stops at his alma mater, UNC-Wilmington, and American. "Then she got here and saw all the excitement with my family. And it really hit home.
