Official: Asst. Coach Donlon gone to Northwestern and Chicago area
It's official: As expected, Billy Donlon was announced as an Assistant Coach at Northwestern under Chris Collins. This is a loss, but I trust Beilein will find a solid coach to replace Donlon. Still hurts.

Change happens, often good. A Michigan man will coach Michigan.
I'd give Jalen Rose a call and see if he wants to be an assistant. Then in 5 years give him the head coaching job.
Here's a nice quote about Donlon's relationship with Beilein. In the Detroit News article, Donlon says there were only two reasons he would have even considered leaving Michigan: a head coach position, and going home to Chicago. I hadn't realized Donlon was divorced, and his daughter Maren now lives in North Carolina, presumably with her mom.
She called to tell her Mom, "Dad made the right choice." "She loved the Beileins. She cried when she realized she won't see the Beileins on every trip. I love the Beileins," said Donlon, whose coaching career also has included stops at his alma mater, UNC-Wilmington, and American. "Then she got here and saw all the excitement with my family. And it really hit home.
