As reported by Wolverines Wire (Link).
He's they younger brother of Patriots OC Josh McDaniels. McDaniels has been QB coach at Denver, and WR and OC/QB coach at Rutgers before this. He also had offensive analyst positions at Denver, Tampa Bay, and Chicago at points in his career.

What were you watching? Shea throws deep quite well. He throws short on intermediate routes.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:14 PM ^
Yes. I watched him underthrow one or two wide open deep receivers just about every game.
December 2nd, 2018 at 11:56 PM ^
Receivers have had to wait on the ball consistently on his deep throws.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:35 PM ^
Only Todd Collins has a higher career completion percentage (64.3); including his Oke Miss stats, Shea's is 62.5, tied with Elvis Grbac.
He also has a very strong arm.

Comparing Shea to Speight? Are you fucking kidding me right now??
In Speight's abbreviated 2017 season (3 games) against the poorest competition on the schedule Speight was 44 for 81 (54.3%) and 581 yards and a QBR of 22.9.
2016 (12 games) Speight was 204 for 331 (61.6%) and 2538 yards and a QBR of 75.1
Patterson was 188 for 289 (65.1%) and 2364 yards and a QBR of 84.1 in 2018.
Speight's passing efficiency 2016-139.8 (2018-126)
Patterson passing efficiency 2018-154.3
Speight was never the same after Iowa and Patterson is even better than pre-Kinnick Speight.

Yes McElwain had the title but I would guess Ben (or Roy) would be with the receivers on a day to day, or down to down basis just as much. I met Ben over the summer and so recognized him on the sidelines being the one talking to the receivers as they left the field.

After speaking with a few people within the organization it seems Ben has been the main guy working with the receivers all year.

The freshmen did as they are apt to do. Perry seemed like the same guy maybe worse. I think he was fine coach but he’s known as a mediocre recruiter and probably wasn’t going to be very helpful in innovating the scheme.
New coaches are usually fun because you can imagine them fixing all the problems.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:51 PM ^
Last year the WRs had a GA coaching them, which was completely stupid for such a young group of guys. This year they had an experienced position coach AND a GA (with more experience than their last one) and another year in the system.
How much of their improvement was actually McElwain, rather than just being less young with better coaching?

I loved the Jim Mc hire and he earned a chance for another job. I don't think he was going to be here for long. CMU has had a good CFB history. Jim did well at CSU then bombed at UF. Good luck to him and thanks for the improvements to DPJ, Collins, etc. He earned this hire.

They also got notably a year older.

Brady retires after the season winning his 6th Super Bowl and is then the OC at Michigan next year.....
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:42 PM ^
He’s looking to get his helmet grandfathered in for next season. He’s not retiring.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:58 PM ^
What?
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
Brady still wears a mid-90s style Riddell helmet that has a 1 Star safety rating. It is on the banned list starting next year. Brees also sported this helmet until this year, but transitioned to a Speedflex. Brady trying to be grandfathered with this helmet.
It shocks me that Aaron Rodgers is allowed to wear the cloth chinstrap still as well
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:29 PM ^
lol this is hilarious, Might be a sign that youre getting old once your helmet is grandfathered in.

Not sure how much say he’ll have in the passing game. But for a bowl where motivation may elusive, it may be nice to have someone coaching receivers who’s auditioning for the role

Man we got a lot of cooks in the offense kitchen.
December 2nd, 2018 at 11:09 PM ^
too many cooks, no good meals!
December 3rd, 2018 at 9:28 AM ^
That's cause what we have is a bunch of cooks and what we need is a master chef.
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:18 PM ^
If pep goes he’s probably the next OC
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:48 PM ^
Really? Not a lot of experience in that role.
How good was the Rutger offense in 2015?
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:50 PM ^
Where do you come up with this? By what reason? Because he's Josh's brother? I doubt like hell he'll get anything more than a courtesy look. The OC at Michigan will have some demonstrable experience...
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
This is all window dressing. There will be zero continuity on offense until the inevitable promotion of Jay Harbaugh to OC.
It's coming. Prepare your anus.
December 2nd, 2018 at 9:11 PM ^
I hope that Jay gets promoted out from under his Dad's wing. It's time for baby bird to fly.
He's not been a bad coach, but there's zero chance that some random dude with his qualifications is a coach at Michigan.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:39 PM ^
What is an NFL QB coach doing as our offensive analyst?
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:43 PM ^
What is Jim Harbaugh doing coaching college football? That's bananas.
December 2nd, 2018 at 11:46 PM ^
I’d say that’s a good thing, no? Especially considering he’s an nfl coach with josh McDaniels as his brother. Definitely a good addition IMO
December 2nd, 2018 at 11:21 PM ^
The Patriot way!
December 3rd, 2018 at 2:07 AM ^
Hope he's not a snake like his brother
December 3rd, 2018 at 7:27 AM ^
There were two Run DMC mentions in this post, which is awesome
December 3rd, 2018 at 10:29 AM ^
All I can hope is that he’s a good as his brother
December 3rd, 2018 at 10:50 AM ^
He was the rutger OC in 2015...
December 3rd, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
What do people expect? The internet is a series of tubes connecting all the computers in the world, maybe the universe. To re-route all the tubes and then superglue the joints back together takes time my friends. Be grateful you can read the musings of the Michigan fanbase. There is nothing more pleasurable than reading people of good will writing stuff like "You're a damn Troll"; "no, you're a Troll"; "no, you are, fucka!" Great stuff.
December 3rd, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
imagine being a cmu grad when mcelwain just got hired to coach florida, and what youd think if someone were to tell you, that in four years he will be the chippewas coach.....
