Obscure post - can we please get Wifi 6E in the stadium

This is the only technology that may actually work in the stadium for 100K people - 5G mmWave won't work because it's too crowded, highly dependent on line of sight, and very battery intensive.

6E has 10x the amount (1200Mhz) of spectrum available compared to 2.4Ghz and 5GHz bands - https://www.pcmag.com/news/what-is-wi-fi-6e

When trying to connect with people on the concourse/inside the stadium, Wifi is useful. Checking scores and shitposting online would also benefit from 6E.

Flagship iOS devices (iPhone 13) will have 6E support this Fall and I think the current Samsung Galaxy has 6E support.

Thank you,

I keep wondering how much impact would be seen if Michigan ran wifi to the stadium for at least students. They already have it in the suite. Take a large chunk of people off the cell network then at least more of us could get a score update or send a text.

It was more to point out the fact the OSU fans fill up Michigan stadium when we play them now.   It's ok, it must be a comprehension thing.

But since you brought it up:

2-17 with one of those wins coming from an interim coach and not including a win O$U had to vacate.  It would have been 2-18 but we mercifully didn't have to play them last year.

So yes, there will never be a single topic that should not preoccupy this fan base more than that.  But I'm happy for you that you've learned to accept the loser role in all of this.

"Just live in the moment, everybody," says the guy getting angry watching strangers take selfies.  If you mind your own business, 6E WiFi isn't going to change your game day experience.

Actually, deploying 5G 3.5Ghz Ultra Wideband will be helpful, because it will get some people off of the 4G LTE infrastructure.  There are quite a few devices that support it now.  It’s also new spectrum, so more bandwidth will be available.  Given the short wavelength it can provide focused coverage, such as covering a group of specific sections.  This will make the shared distributed antenna system in the stadium more effective.  They just need to aim the thing at my section which is in a coverage hole between the in stadium system and the macro cell blasting behind my section.

Wifi 6 is going to me another part of solving the stadium capacity crunch.

It's a moot point if you don't have the antennas to handle the density.  Some of the best access points on the market today max out at a density of a little over 1000 clients per WAP.  The technology even with 6E isn't capable to handle 100k people that closely packed.  So you can put 6e out there and watch it struggle to handle the volume just like 6 does.

For the record, it's only the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra which has 6E compatibility. The S21 and S21 Plus do not.

Apparently, the Xiaomi Mi11 and OnePlus 9 are also compatible, and rumored that the iPhone 13 will have it also.
