O'Korn has been busy this summer

Submitted by umbig11 on

Not only did he attend the Manning Passing Academy, assisted with the A4 Aerial Assualt Camp, but he also attended the Ken Mastrole QB Academy in June like Jake Rudock did last year and he hired Ken Mastrole as his personal QB coach.

In addition, he has been working on his timing and the long ball with Amara Darboh and now Jehu Chesson who has been running and sprinting after his return from injury.

Intentionally left out the FREEP link.

I did a little digging and found the connection to the Michigan coaching staff. Jedd Fisch and Ken Mastrole have a friendship and working relationship. Mastrole also worked the A4 Aerial Assault camp.

"Mastrole believes that will make Rudock a fit with Harbaugh, who he first met during an audition with the Carolina Panthers in 2001. Through his career as a private instructor, Mastrole has also built a strong relationship with Michigan quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Jedd Fisch, who recruited Rudock during his time as an assistant at Miami (Fla.)."

This is what I'm sayin'. People say our defense is good enough to just need a QB that doesn't take risks. I'm sayin' 2017 needs a high-risk-high-reward guy and that defense will make up for the risk, so the JOKer is our guy.

Who is saying this? I don't think there's a specific narrative about the position at all. The question is, what does Harbaugh want, and what do his QBs provide? If Speight is leading, it is assumed that he is running the offense better. Yeah, that means fewer turnovers. But there's no such groundswell here. We need the best guy for the job.

In Harbaugh we trust. The guy who is the tiniest bit better will start. That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to a 2000 Brady/Henson situation in which they alternate series, then the hot hand gets the second half. Assuming that that Speight and O'Korn are roughly equal in skill and grasp of the offense. I also wouldn't mind seeing Shane Morris come out of nowhere to have one hell of a year. With what he's gone through, it would be an awesome story...but I wouldn't bet on it...

will determine who is the man.

Hopefully both have it, but I know your best qb is not the one the team mates begrudingly accept because they can't do a thing about it. It's the man that earns their respect because he'll block and make the tackle if he- don't want this to happen too often - throws a bad one that's picked off. He will support the starter and know where the hell his helmet is in case he get called in. If he sees something on the sidelines and he knows the starter can take advantage of it - say weakside corner is cheating so play action, qb keeper to that side has a chance, he'll point it out. In other words, no matter how much he wants to be in the game he'll do what he can to contribute, knowing he'll get his chance at some point.

There is no way a qb gets this past Harbaugh by putting on the act. This man knows who is genuine - he wears his damn shirt tucked into his 10.00 slacks - and who is forcing it. That goes a long way with this man. It even could be the difference between the time the second teamer gets to work with the first team in blowout games.

Thinking we got two winners in this category because if you aren't get to like that clipboard.

We don't know who will start, neither does anyone else.  Both will have an opportunity and whoever plays better will play.  Our starter may even change over the course of the season...nothing wrong with that.  Luckily they both have a a veteran group around them to support them and a defense to shut down the majority of our opponents.  They should both have a great learning experience, great coaching, great teammates, and a great opportunity this year.

I don't know why anyone would think it is clearly going to be Speight based on the spring game. JOK did well in the spring game and led the final drive. He's mobile and has a lot more game experience. That said, whoever Harbaugh picks will be the right one.

The QBs seem to be working hard this summer. A couple of weeks ago, the Free Press wrote about Speight working with private quarterback coach Steve Clarkson in California, and training with Watson, Rosen, etc. I think the author also said Speight will return to California this week to meet with Tom House.

Glad to hear Chesson is back running routes. That was a real concern after last year when it was very clear that the timing was off between he and Rudock. It took almost half the season for them to get on the same page. Glad they will have time to work out the kinks before the season starts this year. Rather Speight or O'Korn wins the job, they will both have had time to get the timing down with the WR's.

Right on. No offense to Jake but that game with Sparty last year would've been different had the passisng game been further along. I think it's safe to say the long ball will be in play a lot earlier. All three of these boys can air it out. Oooh I cant wait. Two more damn months.

I'll go a little farther, and say that Chesson was still learning how to be a WR.  He barely saw the field under Hoke becuase he couldn't run routes.  All he did was fly down the field.  I think Fisch did a helluva job last year teaching that kid how to be a WR.  Now he's a draft pick waiting to happen...
