NY6: Liberty vs Oregon… a sacrificial lamb? OSU v Mizzou. Thoughts?

Submitted by Amazinblu on December 3rd, 2023 at 3:13 PM

It appears the NY6 has a matchup between Liberty and Oregon.   I am wondering what the spread in that game will be.

OSU v Mizzou… I think I have my meteor game…. It makes me wonder which Buckeyes will opt out.

Thoughts, perspectives, or comments?

That would have been a game people would want to watch, and some of the players who will inevitably opt-out of playing, would want to play.  Showcase their game/talents against top competition one last time before the draft.  I just do not understand most of these match-up this bowl season. Just terrible.

LIberty earned it, just like WMU did in 2016. My kid was in the marching band that year and it was an experience of a lifetime for everyone at that school, especially those who traveled for the Cotton Bowl.

Good for Liberty. Good for all their students.

I think Missouri will beat Ohio state. Lot of buckeye players will miss this game because they are worried about future contracts.

Between the boring matchups and best players sitting out, I doubt that I'll even watch these games.  I wonder if many OSU or Oregon fans will even show up.

At least OSU is playing a team that people have heard of.  Oregon is in a no-win situation.

I mean, Liberty v. Oregon.  Very, very hard for me to imagine that Oregon does not score -- quickly -- every time they touch the ball.  I can't imagine getting enough points to bet on Liberty.

Overall, 6 different Big Ten vs SEC Bowl match-ups.  There are usually quite a few, but even more than normal this year:

  • Michigan vs Alabama, CFB
  • Ohio State vs Missouri, NYD6
  • Penn State vs Ole Miss, NYD6
  • Iowa vs Tennessee, Citrus
  • Wisconsin vs LSU, Outback (ReliaQuest)
  • Maryland vs Auburn, Music City

I could definitely see al the B1G East teams winning, and all the B1G West teams losing.  That would be approrpriately on brand.

The other 3 Big Ten Bowl games, FWIW:

  • Northwestern vs Utah, Las Vegas
  • Rutgers vs still TBD (either ND, UNC or Miami), Pinstripe
  • Minnesota vs Bowling Green, Motor City

There is a great post on 11 worriers lamenting 2023 as the beginning of the end of college football.

It's pretty fantastic. Lots of delusional commiserating by chicken littles who just can't admit that OSU isn't as good as Michigan. Warms the soul.

I think Liberty gets beat as bad as Washington did by the ducks. The eye test tells me Bama is better than FSU, Oregon is better than Washington, and OSU is better than U of M. Its the eye test fellas just listen to ESPN they will set you straight!

I feel bad for Oregon and even OSU.

For Oregon, whatever P5 team is up against the non-P5 team in the Give Little Timmy A Shot Bowl is not liking it.  If the P5 team wins, it's what everyone expects, so the attitude is [shrug].  If the P5 team loses, everyone feels the P5 team totally sucks.  No upside.  All downside.  And who is interested in watching it other than the fans of the two teams involved?

OSU is a good team.  Missouri . . . yes, ranked #9, but I don't know.

To me, it seems a large waste of potential football entertainment.  We could have watched top remaining Big 10 team (OSU) play top remaining Pac 12 team (Oregon).
