Notre Dame's Creative Negative Recruiting Pitch Against Michigan
I couldn't not post this.
On WTKA this morning, which I still haven't even made it through the whole segment, Sam Webb discusses Notre Dame's new "creative" negative recruiting pitch against Michigan.
This is my own quote, but it sounds to have gone something like this... "You should not send your son to Michigan because he might either die. Have you seen Detroit's crime rate? It is one of the highest in the nation. You are risking your child's life by sending him to Ann Arbor."
This is apparently a fact. They are using Detroit's crime rate as a "negative recruiting" tool on recruits, and Sam made it seem like this was in particular being used for foreign recruits who they wouldn't expect to know the geography of Ann Arbor to Detroit. Could have been used for one recruit or a few - this wasn't made clear or as to which recruit in particular.
Anyway, I laughed out loud at work. Especially when Ira read this statistic. And I quote...
"On City Data, they have a crime measure .. The US average is 280.5. The Ann Arbor number is 143.5. So the Ann Arbor number is half the average of the US crime rate. South Bend, on the other hand, and the most recent date is from 2016, they're City Data crime index is 570.7 which is a little more than double. So one is basically half the average rate; the other one is more than double the rate.. *pause for laughter*... Just saying."
Time will only tell if this tactic works out for them. "E" for effort at least.
Link to the segment. Starts around the 9 minute mark.
Go to ND if you want to win Pinstripe Bowls.
No one on their team was alive the last time they won a major bowl.
They played in a National Title game 6 years ago. They won a New Years 6 game over LSU. What?
No one cares about non-NY6 bowls.
Also they went 12-1 in 2012 have nothing to show for it.
No banner, no ring. Whoopie. Once again, they’ve won nothing.
You make some seriously ignorant comments when trying to "burn" another school. Look in the mirror, dude. What have we won recently? At least they have played in a title game recently. Why is it so difficult for you to be intellectually honest? You make yourself, and to a far lesser extent-our fanbase- look stupid when you make dumb arguments like this. Stop it, please.
Agreed. "No one cares about non-NY6 bowls". Tell me you don't have a BWW Citrus Bowl shirt mixed into your collection somewhere.
Well he is tight, no one outside of us really looks at a citrus bowl win as anything special. And considering our last major bowl win was going on 7 years ago and before that the Orange Bowl in 2000...we're not much better.
Wow. You are so clueless. When was the last time Michigan played for a title? Oh that's right...19fucking97. 21 years ago. That's pretty pathetic. At least ND has gotten to the title game recently. ND and UM have been pretty much the same for much of this century....just severely average with some bright spots in there.
Notre dame's performance in that title game should have resulted in sanctions. Embarrassing. Their program had been more of a joke than ours, too bad we ate ass the last time we played each other.
You have to be kidding me WD.... I knew you were a homer but you're not going to win this one. We have nothing to show for the 2006 or 2016 seasons and are probably even worse as we not only lost the OSU game but then lost the bowl game. ND's bowl records has been a lot better recently too.
Since ND's 1993 Cotton Bowl win-
1998 Rose Bowl
2000 Orange Bowl
2012 Sugar Bowl.
3 major bowl wins to ND's 0.
Facts are facts.
UM has not faired much better since 1998.
My whole point was it must suck to be an ND fan when since 1995 you’ve won nothing.
Michigan has a National Championship, 5 B1G Championships and 3 major bowl wins.
Which Conference Championship do you expect ND to win???
LOL took the words right from me. To use conference titles in an argument against ND is probably the dumbest thing I have ever read. WD, you should stick with your lame apparel threads.
Dig up, stupid!
Yes! So much this ^^
Logged in to the new website for the first time just to congratulate you.
They played in a National Title game 6 years ago. They won a New Years 6 game over LSU. What?
So the Citrus Bowl is a major bowl now? Good to know.
*Also not part of New Year’s Six.
To Hell with Notre Dame and their fake news.
Time for a Harbaugh tweet to dispel this fake news?
This totally calls for a Harbaugh response.
Plus its a "public school" (said with nose in the air). Have you ever seen the riff raff at a public school?
It's 65 miles from Gary, IN to ND. 50 from UM to Downtown Detroit.
I'm pretty sure South Bend is the reason why Gary smells so bad
**he might die
**Their
Hopefully this stops the grammar police. I haven't found the "edit" button yet.
Now I'm really confused. Did you mean to write "he might die there"?
It was a sarcastic made up quote saying "don't go to Ann Arbor or you might die due to the high crime rate in Detroit." I added a word that I didn't intend to be in there. Like I said, I don't think there's an edit feature still. Thought I proofread it first but apparently my lack of sleep is affecting my judgment.
The entire post is questionable. You use an admittedly “made up” quote? What is that, it’s either a quote or not. If your intent is to paraphrase don’t put it in quotes. Regardless, the claim sounds ridiculous anyway without what was actually said.
South Bend is such a dump.
Outside of ND (which is very nice) the city itself is basically another forgotten Midwestern town.
That's why NDSucks has their own zip. They don't even claim to be in South Bend, they are in Notre Dame, IN.
South Bend is a complete shithole.
Doesn't the University of Michigan also have its own zip code, 48109?
They do, but it's an Ann Arbor zip. Notre Dame is in Notre Dame, IN, not South Bend.
Brian Kelly actually oversaw the death of a student!
yeah but he wasn't on scholarship. . . s/
September 1 should be a fun day of reckoning
The same argument could be used on ND with relation to Gary, IN. Maybe only a little further away from South Bend than Detroit is from Ann Arbor, but you're basically asking to get herpes, or get shot, the minute you set foot in Gary's city limits. I don't think I've ever driven through a more depressing, run-down city in this entire country.
Usually when we'd make the trip from Ann Arbor to Chicago for a weekend, that was the part of the drive that we always went through as fast as possible.
Need gas? Stop before Gary or after, never in it.
Gary IN is the asshole of the world and South Bend is 60 miles up it
The Jackson 5's going back to Indiana is a great song. They are from Gary, IN. Only positive I can think of for that city.
I’ve stopped to get gas in Gary before and I was born and raised in Detroit...I guess I’m just cut from a different cloth.
Uh have they been to South Bend? Drive like 1 mile west of downtown... Actually don't, unless you want to score some meth.
Crime isn't going to kill you in Ann Arbor but boredom in South Bend just might.
...but Brian Kelly in South Bend just might.
Fixed it for you.
I would expect nothing less from those chickens.
Brian Kelly killed a student
I can't wait to kick the living shit out of the Irish in front of their pathetic, clueless fanbase and mediocre students from their overratted school. I hope that Gary, Chase, Bush and Hudson repeatedly plant their weak QB Wimbush into the ground, making him whimper coming off the field while he removes sod from his facemask.
I hate Domers. Fuck 'em...
Whoa, there, big boy!!! Settle it down some!! Still 2.5 months to go before we need to kick up the vitriol. No need to wad up those panties just yet! We don't want your ticker getting worn out before the game starts. Gonna need that attitude on Sept 1...
If you have ever been to Notre Dames campus/South Bend, it is literally the only thing thats nice in that area, you basically can't leave campus. The rest of the surrounding city is a shithole. Everything good about UofM is that the city and the campus are completely intergrated, and the surrounding areas around the campus are actually nice.
