No more "Michigan Men"

If this is what getting a "Michigan Man" is going to be like for our football games, count me out.

Get a coach who can win, regardless of their affiliation with us.  I don't care what kind of offense they run. I don't care if people get mad because it's not "the Michigan style of football."

The "Michigan" style of football is to play an offense that WORKS and a defense that WORKS.

No more "Michigan Men."  Let's get "FOOTBALL men."

Can we stop with the revisionist history? Everyone was sick with the Michigan Man talk after Hoke, and everybody knew that Harbaugh was not hired purely because of his ties to the program. Most programs in the country, college and NFL, would have killed to have him. Hackett even said he wanted the phrase to die.

If Rich Rod would've gotten 6 years, he probably would have been fired for Title IX violations here instead of at Arizona.

I admire the man's offensive scheme. But he 1.) was bull-headed about his defense and 2.) turned out to be an unethical man in ways far worse than the real estate deal he had going in West Virginia. Never hated him, but I'm glad he wasn't here when he was caught with the violations.

Thank god somebody else said it this time.  I get that RR's tenure was all messed up and stupid Michigan Man shit was part of it, but can we all also acknowledge that RR WAS actually a piece of shit?  So maybe some of the people who worked with him in the AD didn't like him for legitimate reasons and not just because he says "ain't" and doesn't read the New Yorker.

I swear, Brian his RR brigade try to paint it as some unfair cultural bias, but maybe the people working with him didn't like him because he was genuine trash.

i get what you’re saying, but both things can be true - there was a cultural bias against him from the  “michigan man” crowd that didn’t know any better, AND the insiders who could see that he was trash.  you can make something of a go at it with one or the other (if you win), but both?  he was doomed.

christ.  we didn’t hire harbaugh because he was “a michigan man.” we hired him because he was an elite coach.  there’s not a single school in this country that wouldn’t have done the same thing we did in that situation.

oh, and by the way - fire him, and watch a dozen nfl gms dive for their phones.

I agree wholeheartedly as long as you don’t get someone like Rich Rodgriquez.

in addition you have to recruit Ohio and PEnnsylvania.   The lack of recruiting in Ohio is very closely tied to their downfall

I just want a capable coach. One who can manage the clock and an entire game . One who can react to the situations on the field and has options . Not someone who ignores whats happening and continues to run a game plan that isnt working . A coach who can make changes at least at halftime if not on the fly if needed .

I completely agree. There are not that many Michigan Men coaching football. OSU has gone past the Woody Hayes era but we never have gotten past the Schembechler era. The man was a good coach not great. Never won a national championship. It’s time to move on and get the best man for the job.
